Airpods- I take it not all are equal?

DS15 would really like some airpods. He is very careful with his belongings (unlike his sister) so I am happy to buy him a decent pair.

But I don't know anything about them. Can anyone help?

Does he want AirPods (made by apple) or does he want wireless ear buds - not necessarily all the same thing and even if you get him a better quality ear buds ( and many are much better than the apple ones) if they aren’t AirPods he might not be happy.

Does he mean Apple AirPods? If so the noise cancelling ones are better, so look out for that. They are the ones that are 2 I think. There are also 2 pro eg

There are non apple ones though, do you want advice on those or is it definitely apple ones (actual AirPods)? Just thinking that narrows it down a bit.

Thank you. Definitely apple airpods, sorry should have been clearer, I imagine it is paying extra for the brand but it is the only thing he has asked for.

To be honest then I don’t think there is a massive difference DS’s are several years old and still sound as good as DD’s latest noise cancelling AirPod 4s - November birthday they are practically brand new.
To be honest I don’t rate the sound quality but kids are all about the brand.
edit to add - mine are Bose and are considerably better for anyone who isn’t after apple brand

I have AirPods Pro. They are good and the charging case is robust. You can charge the case with the usb c supplied ( no plug though) or use a MagSafe charger. If you haven’t got a plug for usb-c you will need to buy one.
I use a charging stand that does phone and AirPod case at the same time.
They are my 2nd set, DS appropriate my first set because they were better than his plain old AirPods.
