My family of five has just scarfed down 36 mince pies and two tubs of clotted cream in one sitting

I'm slightly shell-shocked 😂 I spent the morning making them and suggested we all take a little mid-afternoon break to have a couple. Half an hour later...crumbs! I suppose I had better make some more.

How many mince pies do you reckon you and yours could get through in one go? I had three. I think ds2 had 8 😳

We've allowed 3 each per day.
But Im sure we will run out .

They're jam tart sized, I make the kind with a pastry star/heart on top. Not huge heavy ones but not mini either.

It makes sense at this size. I reckon 2-3 of the ones I make (in muffin tins) would be about the same in volume. And I can definitely eat that many!

InformerYaNoSayDaddyMeSnowMeIGoBlameALickyBoom · 19/12/2024 17:33

I would only have a teeny tiny slice with a massive salad and I would be full for a week.

My dc (I have 6 of them) would share one between them and be absolutely stuffed.

In reality we would go through none, we aren't a mince pie family at all, now if you were to ask about chocolate gateau on the other hand .... 🤣

sprigatito · 19/12/2024 17:33

@SilverChampagne because it's five days until Christmas and we've already run out! Happily I do enjoy baking (though I did think 36 would last a bit longer than half an hour)

One is not enough.

Two is too many.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 19/12/2024 17:34

My youngest DD and I had a baking session on Tuesday. We made 36 mince pies, froze 24, and ate two each with some clotted cream (I didn't even know it was possible to eat mince pies without cream!) and then she took the rest home. I ate one more a bit later and then that was my lot - and I probably won't manage any more for a fair while! Mince pies are not my favourite. I can eat any amount of Christmas cake though...

Switcher · 19/12/2024 17:25

What's with the cream? Is this a thing now, adding cream?

I guess it's a thing if you like them with cream.

losingweightandgainingconfidence · 19/12/2024 17:35

Yeah I reckon as a family we could get through that in an afternoon 🤣

TempuraCustard · 19/12/2024 17:35

Great... Christmas food shaming 🙄

MsXmasGGMasterTwat · 19/12/2024 17:36

I find that just smelling them fresh from the oven fills me up for the whole of the advent season OP. what a big fat lie

I'm impressed that you made so many. My DC (lanky late teens) polish off whatever I make fairly quickly so I stagger my baking.

Dearg · 19/12/2024 17:37

Aw, you sound like a (much) younger version of my mum. She made the best mince pies. We could definitely have scarfed 36 of hers in one sitting.

But , maybe hide some of the next batch

mitogoshigg · 19/12/2024 17:39

Depends on the size, standard shop size, 2 perhaps, the mini ones 3 or 4 but homemade perhaps slightly more as not as sweet

Upstartled · 19/12/2024 17:39

Oh, come on, that's seriously gluttonous.

losingweightandgainingconfidence · 19/12/2024 17:39

@Upstartled so what?

MrsSethGecko · 19/12/2024 17:41

Ooh if they're warm then cream has been a thing in my family for years and years.

Quite a long time ago I had a recipe to put cream cheese and orange rind inside mince pies but I lost it and can't remember if you put it in before or after you cooked them.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 19/12/2024 17:41

I could smash loads of hone baked sausage rolls but nit mince pies.too sickly

Words · 19/12/2024 17:42

Mincemeat is the devil's excrement.

We had to avoid the kitchen after I made sausage rolls as the temptation was so great to just eat them all! 🐷🤣

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 19/12/2024 17:43

Sounds like you all had a great afternoon. I can do 4 in one sitting, so I'm very impressed with the amount you got through. Im sure there was conversation, laughter and a good time was had by all. Merry Christmas!

So judgy

sprigatito · 19/12/2024 17:45

I did make homemade sausage rolls, but I put them at the back of the freezer in an opaque bag so ds2 doesn't have them as a late-night snack after work! They are for Boxing Day. I have also made a Yule log and a Christmas cake, but everyone knows not to touch those yet. The cherry shortbread was fair game though, that didn't last an hour.

I'd be flattered, if my family loved them they were gone in minutes,

What your secret ?

I need to know your recipe they sound delicious 😋

Salad666 · 19/12/2024 17:57

I don't like mince pies so 0 but my husband also allegedly doesn't like mince pies and when we first had Christmas together he ate a bumper pack of 16 in one sitting 🫨

CreationNat1on · 19/12/2024 18:01

I have eaten soooo much today, this thread is easing my guilt.

X3 bags of hoolahoops
1 purple snack bar (chocolate)
2 mince pies and cream
2 cheese and vegan ham sandwiches
A flap jack
Many mugs of tea.

All rubbish!!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/12/2024 18:01

I can well understand it, OP. My dh virtually inhales my mince pies - mind you I haven’t made any for us yet - not after making 3 dozen for a big family do elsewhere last weekend.

I will make a couple of dozen before Christmas, though.
