Co-worker offended by my Christmas card?

user1471867483 · 18/12/2024 21:10

I bought a pack of Christmas cards from Tesco's 20 pack. They were like animated religious ones. Five of the cards had 'Little donkey ' wording on the front. When my co-worker opened her card, she said, "Are you calling me a donkey?" I didn't even know I'd selected that card in particular for her, as I was just working through the card pack. I said "I didn't design them. Tesco's did". She said she was only joking, but she wasn't. I just wondered your thoughts?

I don’t think I’d have chosen that design with that text for colleagues, to be fair. Too risky.

Something fairly bland and wholesome - robins, singers, christmas trees and the like. Ideally just saying seasons greetings, no overly religious connotations

What? It’s a religious occasion. It’s not remotely risky to send a card that reflects this.

BrightonFrock · 19/12/2024 01:12

Save the rest of that design for your male colleagues. I’ve never met a man yet who didn’t like being compared to a donkey.

BobbyBiscuits · 19/12/2024 01:15

I'd assume she was only joking. That's what she said isn't it? Why would anyone think they were being called a donkey by their colleague in a serious manner?

To be fair OP you did make a rather poor choice.

Was there not a snowflake card in the box?

Brilliant! LOL

Thank you for all your answers - I loved them! 😆

Are you sure she wasn't joking? Really?

Which gospel places a donkey at the heart of obedience to Christ?

Good job it wasn't a camel or she would have really had the hump.

😁😁😁

If I find you a hair, would you like to split it?

charlieinthehaystack · 19/12/2024 11:43

what about the carol Little Donkey? Nativities are always depicted with donkeys among other creatures. what did they think Mary and Joseph rode on- if you split hairs and say an ass is a horse donkey thingy strange woman download the carol on your phone keep playing it!

Funny Animals Donkey GIF by Storyful

just in case here is a little donkey

lazyarse123 · 19/12/2024 11:48

Honestly I despair.
A lot of funny replies though.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 19/12/2024 11:51

Are people really not aware of the children's song Little Donkey? It's clearly a reference to that. And yes, the donkey is a pretty central figure in the Christmas story... that's why it's right there in many Nativity scenes.🎄

Chewbecca · 19/12/2024 11:59

She was joking!

Sadly, she wasn't.

To make up for your insensitivity this year, why not do her a handmade card next Christmas? Perhaps feature something like this as a starting point......

This is the best response ever.
OP I sent my vicar friend a humourous Christmas card and she loved it. Your colleague is weird.

Sebsaloysius · 19/12/2024 12:21

Oh dear, I tried to post what I thought was an amusing (clean!) image, but it obviously wasn't as funny as I considered, as it's banned me from doing so!

BIWI · 19/12/2024 12:27

AS shows that you seem to have a lot of issues with your co-worker(s) @user1471867483 - perhaps it's you and not them?

RB68 · 19/12/2024 12:40

ffs - next year just fold white card to x from y and see what she makes of that

Tinseltuttifruitti · 19/12/2024 12:52

These responses are killing me 😂

I've never heard of the song but if I received that card would just assume it's a reference to the manger nativity scene...

wateraddict · 19/12/2024 12:56

What knowledge does your colleague have of the song Little Donkey? Did they by grow up in the UK when they were likely to have sung it at school? Is it possible the link that is obvious to us is something they are not aware of?

If they know the song, total overreaction of course! Drama you really don't need I am sure.

ChickenNuggetFromSpencies · 19/12/2024 12:58

Is it one of the coworkers you have issues with? Because yes, then it could look pasaive aggressive

She has issues with everyone. She falls out with people right, left and centre, but it's her last day today as she has a new job 😁
