Co-worker offended by my Christmas card?

user1471867483 · 18/12/2024 21:10

I bought a pack of Christmas cards from Tesco's 20 pack. They were like animated religious ones. Five of the cards had 'Little donkey ' wording on the front. When my co-worker opened her card, she said, "Are you calling me a donkey?" I didn't even know I'd selected that card in particular for her, as I was just working through the card pack. I said "I didn't design them. Tesco's did". She said she was only joking, but she wasn't. I just wondered your thoughts?

How silly of her. Surely it's just a reference to the song.

Mum2jenny · 18/12/2024 21:13

Currently in todays society, I’m only sending Christmas cards to a couple of colleagues, because some ppl can take offence over anything.

AnyoneSomeone · 18/12/2024 21:14

Good job it wasn't a camel or she would have really had the hump.

Pepperama · 18/12/2024 21:15

I don’t think I’d have chosen that design with that text for colleagues, to be fair. Too risky.

Something fairly bland and wholesome - robins, singers, christmas trees and the like. Ideally just saying seasons greetings, no overly religious connotations

SoYouThinkYouCanPrance · 18/12/2024 21:15

Do you think she genuinely didn’t get what it referred to?

if not, I’m not sure your reply will have cleared things up Grin

Livinginadream · 18/12/2024 21:16

Lucky it wasn't a cow or you could have mooved her to tears

2025willbemytime · 18/12/2024 21:16

Too risky? Bloody hell. I despair.

daisychain01 · 18/12/2024 21:17

I couldnt take an adult seriously who took offence at a supermarket card with a donkey on it.

i mean, really??

ClicketyClickPlusOne · 18/12/2024 21:17

To be fair OP you did make a rather poor choice.

Was there not a snowflake card in the box?

AnyoneSomeone · 18/12/2024 21:17

A sheep would have driven her baaaaarmy.

stichguru · 18/12/2024 21:17

What Daisy Chain said!

WhateverThen · 18/12/2024 21:18

Gosh mine had foxes on them, I wonder whether people will think I’m flirting!

Ridiculous OP, I really wouldn’t give it another thought!

ClicketyClickPlusOne · 18/12/2024 21:19

A holly design next year

For the prickly people

stichguru · 18/12/2024 21:19

I think I would have been tempted to point to the card and say "do-n-key" and then point to her and say "per-son" very, very slowly... but that might not have helped!

Snorlaxo · 18/12/2024 21:20

Is she young ? My young adult kids never sang Little Donkey at school so wouldn’t know the reference to the song. Some schools never do a traditional nativity and do the modern ones with random characters like cowboys. My kids wouldn’t be annoyed and would assume that the donkey was a reference to the one that Mary rode.

You didn’t do anything wrong. If you’d not given her a card then she’d be the type to complain too.

Orangebadger · 18/12/2024 21:22

One word. Twat! She is, not you btw!

Marymaryxmas · 18/12/2024 21:22

She’s sounds a right pain in the ass 🤣

Gem359 · 18/12/2024 21:30

Tell her you're not sure it's a donkey is might be an ass.

Anothernamechane · 18/12/2024 21:30

It's quite possible she really just was joking and it missed the mark

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Skyrainlight · 18/12/2024 21:51

I tend to ignore the perpetually offended. If I offend someone for a reasonable reason without meaning to I'd feel bad and apologise but that's just ridiculous. I wouldn't be getting her a Christmas card next year.

ChaToilLeam · 18/12/2024 22:22

Get her a snowflake one next year and watch her really hit the roof! ❄️

Mossstitch · 18/12/2024 22:26

Nah, she'd probably have a meltdown

VillageFete · 19/12/2024 00:08

A poor choice? Too risky?

Oh behave!! The world’s gone MAD!

I don’t know about a donkey, but she sounds like a dickhead.

pizzaHeart · 19/12/2024 00:17

if she was joking it was wrong of her to joke as it’s clearly upset you.
If she was serious it’s even worse - who in their right mind would take a Christmas card design so personally.
However saying this I would choose something more neutral. I advised DD against buying a card with cute little cats in Christmas costumes for a friend as he’s a dog lover.
