When are you braving it??

I usually buy my fresh stuff on the 23rd, but I'm busy this year. Will it be okay to buy my turkey on the 21st? I know I haven't put enough thought into Xmas food this year!

clare8allthepies · 18/12/2024 21:44

We’re away Friday to Monday so I’m going to go for the non perishables tomorrow and I’ll have to go for the fresh stuff Monday lunchtime (with the kids in tow 😭)

It would help if I had a clue what to get though, I’ve been attempting to write my list for the past 2 hours!

Joiedepotato · 18/12/2024 21:54

I was just planning to pop into M&S mid morning on Xmas eve but reading this thread I sound mad. I only need a chicken though 🤔

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 18/12/2024 22:01

After the other thread I was on asking if leaving my shop until Christmas Eve morning was a bad idea, I went out today and managed to bag a decent looking Sainsbury's turkey crown (last one for today it appeared) dated 22.01.25 so that'll do, already have a ham, a very reduced massive Porchetta which went in the freezer, non perishables and the rest such as all veg I'll get when I come off my last nightshift on Christmas Eve at 7am. The pigs in blankets and stuffing balls are in the freezer too.

Partner will be sent out for the booze shop.

GellerYeller · 18/12/2024 22:14

Was hoping snacks and mixers at the weekend, then veg/cream etc. on 23rd. We need a farm shop pork pie for an elderly relative as that’s the only acceptable gift apparently!

Moll2020 · 18/12/2024 22:40

Alcohol shopping on Friday after work, food shop on Monday, it'll be crazy but I love it!

mum2jakie · 18/12/2024 22:47

Friday night after work but will need a top up shop sometime next week too

First thing on Monday. I'm living dangerously this year and haven't pre-ordered anything.

Me too! First time in 10 years! I’m a bit nervous!

Printedword · 18/12/2024 22:55

Will get spuds at the weekend and a few other things. Monday collect from butchers and final veg. Puds arrive from milkman on Friday

happy44 · 18/12/2024 23:02

Done most of it today

The rest Monday

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 19/12/2024 07:34

Eeeek, it seems like the world is going shopping on Monday at 6am!

I've never understood the angst about the Christmas shop - we always go in person on the 23rd and have never had any problems getting food or essentials.

Without meaning to turn into my dad, the shops are only shut for a day - you'd think they were closed for weeks the way people go on!

PepperoniPizzas · 19/12/2024 11:18

Already done. Just need to pick up the turkey and pigs in blankets from the butchers Christmas Eve. Will grab milk at the same time.

TheMousePipes · 19/12/2024 11:22

I did mine yesterday. I’ll inevitably need to get a couple of things but all the ‘stuff’ is in and done.

cleanasawhistle · 19/12/2024 12:10

Already have a few things.
Asda delivery on Sunday.
Working Monday so whatever doesn't get delivered my OH will pop to shops and get

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 19/12/2024 18:37

Mine is being delivered Monday 23rd between 7.30-8.30am so will have time to pick up any bits that are out of stock!

Beginningtolookalot · 19/12/2024 18:42

I have a click and collect early Monday and DH will go out later to get the meat and anything missing from the order - I’m now feeling I might have taken a bit of a risk

Unrulyrabbit · 19/12/2024 18:52

Probably Monday, early.

DeathMetalMum · 19/12/2024 18:58

I've done mine today, the shops were notably busy with lots of people doing 'big shops'. It's my normal shopping day and dp works for one of the large supermarkets that do an additional % off for staff for a limited time before christmas.

Aldi looked like a bomb had hit it at 10.30 this morning everyone going crazy over the 8p veg.

honeyfox · 19/12/2024 19:03

Already done two small shops for non-perishables, will get fresh veg and butcher stuff the 23rd or 24th.

Cantstopthenoise · 19/12/2024 19:59

Did an Aldi shop today and have a couple of delivery slots over the weekend. We are going to my parents’ for Christmas dinner but I have planned so we are covered if plans change quickly, and also have plenty of snacks and drinks for while the kids have time off!

twistyizzy · 19/12/2024 20:03

Main shop done at 6pm today. Now just butcher and M+S on Xmas Eve. Thankfully still some space in fridge + freezer.

Loobylu66 · 19/12/2024 20:36

Picking up M&S food order on Monday 23rd then Ocado are delivering the rest the same day.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/12/2024 20:48

Crack of dawn on the Monday, to be there when M&S opens, for turkey and fresh orange juice. Will have everything else by then.

Tisfortired · 19/12/2024 20:56

I’m going to M&S for some bits tomorrow (Chocolate pine cones, stuffing and cheese) and have a Tesco shop being delivered on Sunday morning with everything else. If anything is missing from the shop I’ll be going to Sainsbury’s on Monday morning but I really really hope I don’t need to.
