Christmas eve boxes for teens

I know some people think this is an absurd new tradition but I've been doing it since my ds 17 was born so I ain't stopping now.
But what to put in? Can't remember what I did last year. I used to put in a selection box, book, pyjamas and cuddly toy. I have ds 17 and dd 11. Pj's don't go in now because they have Xmas ones for December. Too big for cuddly toys.
So, any ideas? Just Xmas eve related so not 'presents' as such.

I'm all for doing one but (and I'm surely not a total exception here?) my kids (now young adults but it's always been the case) have access to many hot chocolate flavours, marshmallows, chocolates, all manner of films on various streaming devices, Stanley cups, blankets, pyjamas etc etc because we have all these items in the house already.

So I'd literally have no idea what to put in one!

You could extend this argument to never getting your family any kind of gift ever though. My husband does not need me to buy him a new pair of goalie gloves for Christmas. My daughter could buy her own oodie.

I could buy myself a bottle of Bailys any week of the year, but it's fun to get a bottle for Christmas.

WhatsItWorthToYou · 20/12/2024 08:29

@4pmfireworks no, it's not about what they could buy themselves. It's about why would I buy what they already have?

@WhatsItWorthToYou that’s I was thinking about the hot chocolate, surely that is a staple if you are a family that drinks hot chocolate.

We might have box standard hot chocolate in the cupboard but we don’t drink it regularly. We might add a special one (like galaxy or costa or something) or the chocolate bombs that melt in the hot milk with bits in side them and we wouldn’t have cream on top regularly etc. Definitely a Christmas Eve treat and not a regular thing.

TwinkleLights24 · 20/12/2024 09:11

I put my teens together last night. She is 15 and has….

Christmas Pjs
Christmas fluffy socks
Lush bath bomb and a cute gingerbread sponge
New mug with her name on and a selection of hot chocolate flavours
Tin of Santa cookies
Elf Smarties/Malteasers/Cadburys coins
Pouch of Festive friends - Milkybar
A Christmas scented candle
A Hygge Christmas colouring book (If you’re into the colouring in community then you’ll know)
Claw clip

Needmorelego · 20/12/2024 09:12

@TwinkleLights24 do you do stockings too.
A lot of what you listed I would give in the stocking.

So does mine but it’s still a fun thing to.

Yes I do. Stocking will have perfume, make up, girly things.

crumblingschools · 20/12/2024 09:17

@TwinkleLights24 your Christmas Eve box sounds like our stockings and your stocking sounds like our main presents!

WhatsItWorthToYou · 20/12/2024 09:17

@Dueanamechange2025 I clearly spoil mine far too much Grin We have posh hot chocolate , Pringles and Stanley cups all year round! Grin

I get the impression we're all supposed to be terribly impressed. Have you really just come onto the Xmas Eve box thread to boast that you have 'posh hot chocolate' all year round? Why not also drop into the Christmas bargain thread and let everyone know there how you have no idea what to buy anyone because you get them anything their heart desires whenever they want it. Christmas is every day in your house. In the meantime congratulations on possibly the most condescending posts I've read on Mumsnet all year. That really is an achievement.

Needmorelego · 20/12/2024 09:59

Surely a Stanley Cup is just a present and not specifically Christmasy?
(or maybe I'm thinking of the wrong thing.... they're those giant water bottle things aren't they?)

Edited

Since we're on the subject on Stanley Cups, can anyone explain them to me please, as we have one but it sits in the cupboard unused. How do you use it as a waterbottle when it has a gap for a straw, so surely would leak unless kept upright at all times (and also doesn't fit in a school bag)?

Needmorelego · 20/12/2024 10:17

@XelaM I don't understand them. I'd get fed up of carrying it after about 20 seconds.
I can see why they are popular with the American crowd where they drive everywhere and it will live in a drinks holder 😂

crumblingschools · 20/12/2024 10:21

How often do you replace a Stanley cup? Surely once you have one, you have one.

SJM1988 · 20/12/2024 10:26

Mine aren't teens but we do hot choc, marshmallows and biscuits. PJ's and a cuddle toy still as they are small. Although I think I will always get PJ's :)
Other things I've done in the past are those hot chocolate stick things you can get, hot choc bomb, Candy canes, Sweets, choc coins

On my to do list when they get older is bubble bath, face masks, toiletries sets, scratch cards, Christmas jigsaw (I got one for myself this year instead of the kids),

WhatsItWorthToYou · 20/12/2024 15:18

@XiCi I think you've misunderstood my post tbh. Are you a bit hard of reading?

Stompythedinosaur · 20/12/2024 15:40

My 13yo will be getting pjs, the same Night Before Christmas book we've had since she was tiny, a chocolate santa, can of pop and a bath bomb.

Needmorelego · 20/12/2024 15:46

Is this a particular "Night Before Christmas" book that everyone is talking about?
I love children's books but I don't think I've ever read a specific book of it.
I've read the poem in various different books.

Stompythedinosaur · 20/12/2024 17:34

Ours is the Robert Salbuda pop up one and it is very beautiful!

Anjelika · 20/12/2024 18:01

My DC are 17 & 14. They are getting new pyjamas, chocolate Santa, hot chocolate sachet, Xmas themed scratch card and a £10 Costa gift card. We don't do stockings but the love a Xmas Eve box.

Hard of reading? That's not even a saying 😂. I did not misunderstand your posts. You were trying to belittle people that put little treats like hot chocolate in Xmas eve boxes.
