Christmas eve boxes for teens

I know some people think this is an absurd new tradition but I've been doing it since my ds 17 was born so I ain't stopping now.
But what to put in? Can't remember what I did last year. I used to put in a selection box, book, pyjamas and cuddly toy. I have ds 17 and dd 11. Pj's don't go in now because they have Xmas ones for December. Too big for cuddly toys.
So, any ideas? Just Xmas eve related so not 'presents' as such.

Book, mug, tub of their favourite hot choc, socks, candy canes, milk straws, little fidget toy.

thaegumathteth · 18/12/2024 23:28

Mine are 14&17

PJs (not Christmassy)
Tree decoration each (themed to an event for them from this year)
A drink each that they like
Popcorn
Hot chocolate for Dd
Some kind of chocolate / biscuit

VillageFete · 19/12/2024 00:03

Eldest child is 15 and in hers this year-

A £10 Christmas themed scratch card
Large Kinder chocolate Father Christmas
Marshmallows
Fluffy socks
Pretty note pad
Reindeer dust - I hope she wants to sprinkle it forever 🫣 But she has 2 younger siblings so isn’t sprinkling alone!

smellsfishy · 19/12/2024 00:05

A special drink? I'm putting weird Fortnums beer in for DS & DH. Not for the 17 & 12yo though - they'll get hot chocolate probably. Along with sweets /chocs and non Xmas themed PJs. I don't think I'd do it if I wasn't putting PJs in 😂 I might put a face mask in for DD.

RunVelma · 19/12/2024 00:14

We’re the same - been doing a Xmas Eve box way before they were a mainstream thing. They look forward to it more than their presents on Xmas morning!

Stopped doing Xmas pjs & instead just put in a really nice pair. This year they’ve chosen their own (Victoria’s Secret. Way over my usual budget) and I’ve bought a marshmallow / s’mores kit from Etsy with a wee gel burner & also a bubble tea kit. I’m also making Gavin & Stacey bingo cards!

RunVelma · 19/12/2024 00:20

We’ve never done individual boxes - just a big one to share. The box lands in the garden on Xmas eve night. The idea is that Santa threw it off his sleigh on the way past. There’s usually a letter from Santa telling them they’ve made it onto nice list.

healthybychristmas · 19/12/2024 00:34

I just don't understand why anyone needs a Christmas Eve box. They're going to get loads of presents the next day. Presumably you've got chocolates in the house anyway. Same for hot chocolate. Why do they need treats on Christmas Eve when they only have to wait a number of hours to get gifts?

OatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 19/12/2024 00:37

We have a wicker hamper with new pyjamas for everyone sleeping here on Christmas Eve (not festive ones, they got those weeks ago), a bath bomb or shower belly each, a copy of a favourite Christmas book (16 years old) and a selection of treats for a movie.

SnowFrogJelly · 19/12/2024 00:40

Not this again 🙄

PinkArt · 19/12/2024 00:44

Oreyt · 18/12/2024 19:02

Dd14 asked for £57 worth of lush for Christmas. That. A Braclet and charm and a hoody is £250 on 3 items 😢😢

Just because she's asked for it all doesn't mean she should expect to receive it all! Surely a Christmas list is for ideas, it's not a shopping list.

Thesquaregiraffe · 19/12/2024 00:48

I make an Advent Calendar for my son and I make No 24 a little bit special because we often stay away from home for Christmas Eve. So, for No24 I tend to do, PJ’s, hot chocolate, smaller value PlayStation voucher and a puzzle book (or activity of some kind) the kind of thing that makes a hotel room more fun. I do the same for New Years Eve.

When he was younger, it provided a way of splitting up presents so he was never overwhelmed. Now, it’s actually just fun! I never buy “more” I just divide up what I’ve already bought over the three days and there’s also a lot of cheap silly stuff in there too (from Shien or the like).

Christmas Eve Box - NO
No24 - YES

My elder two boy are 17 and 14 now but I am still putting together a Christmas Eve box for them, so far I have some fleece pyjamas, Nightmare before Christmas fluffy socks, some sweets, Christmas cup and straw from Home Bargains and a mini funko pop Nightmare before Christmas set for each, still looking for a few more ideas too.

4pmfireworks · 19/12/2024 01:39

Mine get pyjamas (actually pants and a tshrt for ds because he doesn't use jammies).

Last year I did hot chocolate making stuff and it went down a storm, so I'm doing the same again this year. choc powder, marshmallows, some silly chocolate teaspoons, edible glitter, that sort of stuff. All came from a discount store. Cheap and cheerful and loads of fun.

XmasSocks · 19/12/2024 02:00

Why not?

Why bother posting if you are just going to be negative

You do you

Pumpkittenspice · 19/12/2024 08:40

I’m 28 and I’ve always received one. My DM has always put in a pair of pjs, a bath bomb and a book 😊

I bought a teddy bear when my DD was 18 ( she;s 22 now) I searched for "tiny teddy bears" and got one that had the fiercest looking little black glassy eyes .only about 3" tall
She loves him and has him sitting on her desk

Starlightstarbright4 · 19/12/2024 18:40

my Ds (17 ) has pj bottoms ( I know you said no to them )
a bottle of fruit cider and a bag of popcorn .

it used to have DVD, craft activity and a book . None of which he would touch now .

I did buy YouTube world records last year but he didn’t really bother so not going to do that again

Wefellinloveinoctober · 19/12/2024 18:42

I get a hotel chocolat dipping box every year (the large one) for us to nibble on on Christmas eve whilst watching a movie. We stopped doing Christmas boxes a year or two ago, but always have the dipping box.

On NYE we have a chocolate fountain. If you have one, bits for dipping and luxury chocolate are good to go in the box.

StressedQueen · 19/12/2024 18:46

We don't really do boxes and have never heard of them until this year but we always give our children their pyjamas on Christmas Eve, ready to sleep in and wake up all Christmassy on the day!! We tend to put them all in one basket with a Christmas chocolate each and this has been tradition for quite a while but I don't really see the point of adding much more than that because they get loads of presents the next day. Obviously each to their own but my kids would prefer getting everything on one day anyway.

Santalikespies · 19/12/2024 21:37

DS is 18 in his box is
cider
selection box
Christmas Lego ( Santa and snowman)
scratch card
Xmas socks
uno flip

Needmorelego · 19/12/2024 21:45

I've got my girl some Christmasy shower gel that I will probably give on Christmas Eve. Or to be honest probably on the 23rd as that's the day we arrive at my mums.
That's it really.

For mine (which I’ve done for years and years before they became a thing), it was about the Christmas Eve traditions, so it would be a Christmas story book, the raindeer food, maybe a DVD and some treats to whilst watching it and some nice PJs so I knew the kids would have matching (as in matching set, not matching each other) & clean pjs on Christmas morning photos. Oh and sometimes a bath bomb / bubble bath, to get them bathed and bed early ish. Didn’t take away from them receiving Christmas gifts the next day at all.

Oreyt · 19/12/2024 22:34

@Floranan

That's nice you enjoyed doing it.

I can't imagine my mum doing them for my kids never mind adults.

Never done adult boxes here.

Oreyt · 19/12/2024 22:36

@PinkArt

Well she only asked for 4/5 things so yes I got them all.
