Age: 75
Active. Likes dancing, going on days out. Enjoys a red wine (but we buy that for every birthday/Mother's Day.) Reads books but buys them all the time from charity shops.
Isn't much of a foodie, won't eat chocolates etc as she's very health conscious.
Already has tons of clothes/scarves/gloves.

Voucher for afternoon tea at Blackpool tower ballroom.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 18/12/2024 06:13

Obvious suggestion, but does she like flower? My mum doesn't like luxuries (she's quite proud of her meaness!), but loves getting cut flowers.

Mind you, if I can get some heavily reduced from the supermarket, they are apparently even better.

Editted to add a missing question mark.

She's only just been to Blackpool for the weekend to go dancing and it's hours away from here, so she's unlikely to travel there again. She also doesn't eat cake so afternoon tea isn't her bag (otherwise, good shout!)

Just thinking further. My mum also likes expensive perfume (Diorissimo is her favourite).

Would she enjoy another type of experience, if afternoon tea doesn't fit the bill? Red Letter Days or the like? Does she like Strictly Come Dancing - tickets to one of the live tour shows, if near enough or other dance - ballet?

Maybe...but she tends to go everywhere with her partner who we don't know very well, we aren't at the gift giving stage with him. Most experience gifts are for two people. I will look at local theatres and maybe get her a general voucher, then she can get tickets for a show she fancies.

I recently found to my benefit that Theatre Tokens are old school and don't have an expiry date, so I would give those.

Bird table
Emma Bridgwater mug
Magazine subscription
Herb planter
Overnight bag
Muscle recovery bath soak

A voucher for a beauty treatment? Eg manicure/pedicure:/ massage/facial? Most salons do vouchers and you can choose which treatment you want to use it for

JG24 · 18/12/2024 08:26

If she likes books how about a book subscription? There's lots that pick second hand books based on her favourite genres and deliver a couple a month
Or tickets to a literary festival?

Hayley1256 · 18/12/2024 09:29

My mums a similar age but less active, I've got her a really nice blanket, a netflix subscription, a cozy hot water bottle, a dressing gown, slippers, a personalised calendar and a plant

BrieAndChilli · 18/12/2024 10:01

Wine tasting voucher at a local vineyard
piece of jewellery - you can get ones with the photo inside a glass ball - if you hold it up to the eye or shine a light through it is projects the image

TravellingJack · 18/12/2024 10:04

What sort of dancing? Perhaps new dance shoes, or useful accessories like a shoe bag or fans? I dance and can get through wooden fans pretty quickly as they're a bit flimsy and I get really hot! You can get pretty painted fans in any colour.

TravellingJack · 18/12/2024 10:08

I bought my mum a vintage Stratton compact one year - again, lots of designs to choose from. Mum still keeps hers in her handbag even though I've rarely seen her use it - apparently she mostly gets it out in company so people comment on it!

petitdonkey · 18/12/2024 10:08

We bought my mum a kindle to read on which she loved as she hated getting rid of all her trashy books when she’s done with them.
we also bought her a kindle fire which was a surprise hit- she has ‘readly’ on it for magazines, the bbc and the daily Fsil. (Drives us all mad saying ‘I read this on the tablet’ and we have to tell her it was the Mail so not to take it too seriously!!)

healthybychristmas · 18/12/2024 10:13

I was going to suggest a Kindle as well and that she gets a library subscription and borrows them for free.

Rocknrollstar · 18/12/2024 10:27

Theatre or cinema vouchers
restaurant voucher
spa day
a planted tub for the patio
NT membership
Bracelet or earrings
No 7 Gift set or similar
Voucher for manicure

I’m a similar age and I don’t want photos, throws, magazines, hot water bottles, dressing gowns or slippers. Something she can do with her partner would be nice or something she could do with you - I would love more of my offspring’s time.

luckylavender · 18/12/2024 16:46

What about tickets for the Strictly tour?
