Yule log recipe

I try to eat as low UPF as possible and after seeing the mile long list of ingredients in a store bought one I'm taking DD's suggestion and making one. I've never made one before but am a good baker and 99.9% of the time things are a success.

Can anyone recommend a recipe please?

Try this one?

I made one last year and it was nice and easier than I thought - definitely feels better knowing what's in it.

For the ganache, I thought the dark chocolate was too bitter but it's personal taste - I may have put too much in!

I also recommend Nigella’s

I made the nigella one and it's amazing, thank you! It will definitely become a tradition. It rolled beautifully too. No cracks or messy bits.

Ooh don't worry about cracks and messy bits, thats like a real wood log. I actually cheated, made a chocolate cake in a loaf tin. Shaped it after cooking, added chocolate icing in the centre, butter icing on top.

I love the Nigella one and this was my 3rd year making it - it's actually really easy to do, and I'm quite clumsy and non-crafty. For those reasons I don't do the branch bits, but it still looks fab (imho).

I’ve been making Nigella’s yule log for the past 15 years. Never fails. This year it lasted exactly 48hrs. DS tried to convince me to make a second one, next year I think I will.

I sometimes make it in the summer and decorate with strawberries and raspberries etc.
The chocolate buttercream is my go to recipe for other cakes too.

I made mine Christmas Eve. Is it still ok to eat? It's just been wrapped in foil on the table.

Send it round and I'll check if for you. 😋

Ah, I was just about to say I would be a willing guinea pig to test out the cake, mind you, Christmas eve and it hadn't been eaten, definitely poison,(of course I am joking)🤣🤣

Yes it will be fine. She says you can make it up at least a week in advance. made mine on Christmas eve and still about a quarter left and still good to eat.
