Would you believe it?

OP posts:

Well it’s difficult. All those assessments
prebirth assessment and perinatal referral for mary who reports immaculate once
I’d struggle to get her in to temp accommodation what with a donkey and all that, No landlords or TA will take a donkey
The wise old guys? Are they family?
care act assessment for all
psychiatric review for mary
consider a safeguarding- is she coercing or gas lighting the chippie?

And don’t get me started in b3nefits, documentation
The wise guys…from Bethlehem. Do they have leave to remain? What if they are no recourse to public funds or something. Their gold and what’s it Myrrh? That’ll need exploration. Are they family old guys doing county lines
Oh sweet Jesus, all that work p. Xmas week

It’s a philosophical question surely- not an out taste joke regarding the Middle East.
Although for some reason the first couple of posters have chosen to make a joke out of it which I find offensive as a Christian regardless.
In regards to the original question, as a Christian I’d like to think I would but out of the blue if Christianity didn’t exist I can’t be sure.

Kevin Bridges did a sketch about Joseph telling his work pals that his wife is pregnant

could Xmas happen today? Hell no. Pg woman saying it’s immaculate conception…umm ok there Mary
Wise Guys…really? Is that a euphemism

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 17/12/2024 22:09

No. Virgins don't give birth. I wouldn't believe it now, and I don't believe it happened back then

etonmessedup · 17/12/2024 22:11

I don't believe it happened then, never mind now.

DH and I were saying this at the weekend actually, how anyone would believe that Mary & Joseph (or another man) hadn't conceived via sex.

Just sounds like a terrible cover story for Mary doing something she shouldn't, or even a rape she didn't want to admit.

Martymcfly24 · 17/12/2024 22:12

I would believe wholeheartedly that people would close their doors on a family in need and a pregnant mother and leave them desperate and out in the cold. (Based on current events)

Kendodd · 17/12/2024 22:14

Well I'd be really interested to see the baby's DNA test results.

Gawdimold · 17/12/2024 22:17

I said the same. DNA would have to be done

I’d actually believe that more now, as it’s completely possible via IVF etc.

It’s always been possible, of course, if you fooled around in the wrong way even if it didn’t get as far as full PIV.

YourDeepBird · 17/12/2024 22:20

Wow - I wonder if you would think it appropriate to joke about any other religions? Or is it just Christianity that is joke worthy?

MushMonster · 17/12/2024 22:21

Well, we would have it all properly documented and posted in youtube, minute by minute.
The doctor would certify virgin and pregnant.
Joseph would have a fan club.
The angels would be sending messages in whatsapp, to save carbon footprint regarding the trip from and back to heaven.
We would know of the star from the East ages before, and NASA would know exactly when the birth is happening. The 3 Wise Men would catch a plane, last minute. Presents would have to be A PHONE, a playstation and a voucher of some sort.
Sheppards would be replaced by influencers and, hopefully, some good journalists. Those would forget to bring presents to the baby.
The donkey and ox would be plushies.

Would I believe an extraordinary story like his birth today? I think likely no. But, if a man walks this Earth today or tomorrow with his message, with the sermon on the mount and his kindness, that 100% I would believe in.

AllThePotatoesAreSingingJingleBells · 17/12/2024 22:22

It depends. What does TikTok tell us?

QueenOfHiraeth · 17/12/2024 22:23

Meanwhile TikTok would melt down over the star.
Are NASA hiding a planetary body about to collide with Earth? Did Nostradamus foretell this? Is it really a star or drone(s)? If drones, are they ours or from a hostile country?

Yes, I did not actually want to say that, but I thought it too.
And the presecution...
All that is still very very very ppssible indeed.

If you're going to make fun of a beautiful time of year for Christians, at least get your terminology correct.

It's not an immaculate conception

Same here. Each to their own and all that but to me the birth of Jesus is simply a work of fiction

OP are you old enough to remember a man called David Ike. If not then have a little Google of him. He was a sportsman who decided that he was the son of God. The majority of people laughed at him or thought he was mentally ill and worried about him. I don't remember anyone actually thinking he was the son of God. I don't believe the story of the birth of Jesus and I wouldn't believe it if it was occurring now.

No I won’t be consulting the oracle of religious terminology on a Tuesday when posting on mn in mirth
i also won’t be reprimanded because you don’t like the tone or content of my posts. In life one at some point will inevitably become offended . It happens, the trick is how one deals with it
Do I think Xmas is beautiful. Very much so. Time with our families. The children giddy excitement. The telly. The socialising. It is indeed beautiful

"It's not an immaculate conception" what do you mean?
All those years of Catholic education were teaching us that Mary was a virgin and her pregnancy was the Immaculate Conception. Is this not believed to be the case now? Was the bible wrong?
