I love Christmas, love Christmas food, but why does everything have to be ruined with cranberry sauce?!! Festive sandwiches, vegetarian foods with some arbitrary cranberry topping (Brie for instance). I can’t stand the stuff! Don’t even get me started on the lack of gluten free Christmas party food (another topic I know), but it would be lovely to have some bing in the oven appetisers that I don’t have to think about. Just little things like putting breadcrumbs on the top - just use gluten free ones if it’s only for the crunch!!

Yes, I know I am being unreasonable and the world doesn’t revolve around my likes or allergies, but I just want something nice I don’t have to make from scratch!

Yabu

Oh I feel bad about the gluten now.

But defo still unreasonable about cranberry and Brie!

OMGitsnotgood · 17/12/2024 19:42

Sorry OP but cranberry with Brie is a match made in heaven. Optionally add bacon

GroovyChick87 · 17/12/2024 19:43

I love cranberry sauce. I have it on every roast dinner.

MayaPinion · 17/12/2024 19:47

You are right OP. Cranberry sauce is just jam. All these people are putting jam on their dinner.

Oneearringlost · 17/12/2024 19:49

Completely agree, OP. And I would go further and want all savoury food that is paired with sweet, BANNED! ( I know I'm being unreasonable, but the sheer number of dishes on restaurant menus that do this is staggering).

Spaceid · 17/12/2024 19:49

Yeah, I thought I probably was being unreasonable! It’s only my dad who likes it so I don’t really get it. It tastes like jam to me, which is fine with toast, I just don’t want jam on my roast dinner! It’s the only thing I never bother to make and just buying a jar as only one person likes it. Is it nicer homemade, less like jam?

I have found my person!! Yay!! I completely agree.

Best bit of Christmas. Make it yourself so it can be sharper than the stuff in jars.

BruFord · 17/12/2024 19:56

i don’t mind plain cranberry sauce but I can’t bear “cranberry with “ combinations that some people make.

DH’s family now makes cranberry sauce with horseradish…which is great for people who like horseradish, but not everyone does! I now bring some plain sauce for those who can’t stand horseradish ( and it’s not just me).

FuckMeUpFlorida · 17/12/2024 19:59

I feel like this about stuffing!

Stop adding stuffing to sandwiches/onto chips/baked potatoes or whatever else is being cooked up that's not a roast dinner, can't stand the stuff yuck.

tillytoodles1 · 17/12/2024 20:00

I'm the same with Cinnamon, can't stand the stuff, but every Chritmas recipe seems to have it.

CurbsideProphet · 17/12/2024 20:04

I don't like cranberry at all, but I don't like sweet and savoury together in any form 😬

Omg me too! I cannot stand the stuff and I break out with a blotchy red face when they hide it in stuff! I try and avoid it, but they snuck it in a ‘Christmas’ whisky cocktail. Really appreciated that on my night out!!
