Dilemma: even piles…

None of the DC have a “main” present this year because 1. No one asked for one 2. Budget is tighter than normal .
All have about 10 gifts (and no wider family).
DH has been given a tablet. It’s ok. Workable and reasonable specs, but averages 2.8 stars on reviews. He has no use for it and suggested we give to DS13.
DS11 has a tablet as one of his gifts. Similar specs but I researched well and it gets 4.9 star reviews.
The “spare” tablet looks more impressive (bigger screen) but is likely more glitchy and not the best.
If we give it to DS13, he’ll have more than the other 3 (DS 15 and DD17 already have tablets hence why it’s just being considered for him.) Also, his pile is already physically bigger and objectively more fun/ indulgent.
Do we give him the tablet? If so, do we have to buy more for the others?
help!

Just to confirm

DD17 has a tablet
DS15 has a tablet
DS13 doesn't have a tablet
DS11 is being given a tablet by your for Christmas

If I've got that right, why does DS13 not already have a tablet?

Because he’s never wanted / expressed interest in one. He has a phone and a laptop.
DS11 was interested in one for art, which is why it made his list (plus a Meko stylus and drawing app).
But I’m a bit worried DS13 may see it as unfair (which your post reinforced!) as it seems a big ticket item (actually “only” £80, vs dumbbells for ds13 at £60, and football boots at £80).
Not sure DS13 would get much more use of it than he does his laptop though, and it seems frustratingly glitchy!

Honestly, I'd let ds13 borrow the tablet outside of Christmas. It doesn't sound like it's something he'd actually much want and he has plenty of gifts.

Have it as a shared one for the house. Which over time will become DS13s

HolyMoly24 · 17/12/2024 16:08

I wouldn't give it as one of his gifts personally. Just have it around as a spare and then if he gets use out of it he may ask for a better one next year.

Doesn't sound like he'd be bothered about not having one

That’s a pretty good consensus then! Looks like I have a plan. Thank you all.
