I think today mine is the Sussex carol ("On Christmas night all Christians sing/To hear the news the angels bring...").

Gabriel’s message. I love the haunting, minor-key tune. I love all carols, actually - there are very few I don’t know. Classic FM do an annual poll of favourite carols.

Love the Sussex carol, rarely hear it. Also Angels from the Realms of Glory. I love a good Carol.

MagpiePi · 16/12/2024 08:45

I like The Coventry Carol, another minor key one but with interesting harmonies.
Also The Holly and the Ivy. It rattles along cheerfully and is full of some good traditional pagan imagery that has Christianity shoehorned in. 😉

Someone is going say ‘In the Bleak Midwinter’ , aren’t they? Bloody dreary dirge that it is.

Chocolately · 16/12/2024 08:48

I love The Holly and The Ivy, especially sung by a young choir, so atmospheric.

LittleLlama · 16/12/2024 08:49

I enjoy lots of carols but really love “We three kings”

It reminds me of my childhood and is just such so joyful a song.

“We three kings of Orient are;
Bearing gifts we traverse afar,
Field and fountain, moor and mountain,
Following yonder star…..”

Couldn't choose a favourite, so top 3:
Gloria in excelsis Deo
Adeste Fideles
The Little Drummer Boy sung by Boney M

Another that loves We Three Kings. I also love O Come All Ye Faithful, and The First Noel.

YorkieTheRabbit · 16/12/2024 09:12

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

O Holy Night

Silent Night

TangoTarantella · 16/12/2024 09:17

O Little Town of Bethlehem
Myn Lyking
I wonder as I wander (not sure it’s a carol but I love hearing it at Christmas)

IntheArctic · 16/12/2024 09:18

In the bleak midwinter

OldTinHat · 16/12/2024 09:18

I love the one that's always on American films. Can't remember what it's called, or even how it goes atm!

MyStylish40s · 16/12/2024 09:20

I can’t choose between O Holy night, and Silent Night

Ruslandgirl · 16/12/2024 09:21

O Little Town of Bethlehem.

AuntieDolly · 16/12/2024 09:21

Carol of the Bells (another minor key one!)

Jabbabong · 16/12/2024 09:22

Carol Decker.

Blondie did a cover of we three Kings, I saw them in December a good few years ago and it was the encore song, we were all encouraged to sing along 😁

O Holy Night
Silent Night

On Christmas Day by resound worship
From the squalor of a borrowed stable

Cardboardeaux · 16/12/2024 09:29

God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen
Tomorrow Shall be my Dancing Day

I think Oh Come All Ye Faithful is a bit overdone but I love the lesser-sung "child for us sinners" verse ("who would not love thee / loving us so dearly")

chickensandbees · 16/12/2024 09:30

Hark the herald angels sing
