I have till 11.45 tonight to add to my Tesco order tonight so would really appreciate help!

We've invited people back (maybe 20+ish after the village carol service on Sunday afternoon. I want nibbes that are a bit more than just olives etc and have been away doing family stuff and had the dreaded bug.

I am making sausage rolls, Nigella's sticky sausages, smoked salmon/cream cheese on sourdough, twice baked small jacket potatoes and will have a cheeseboard but my brain has turned to mush. Used to be so good at this kind of stuff but have got out of practice. All ideas for simple savoury stuff very gratefully received - brownies and mince pies will cover the sweet stuff.

Thank you!

Please do you have any quick and easy ideas for

Just seen that Tesco have a dedicated party food section, OP:

I'd have suggested hummous, halloumi fries, blinis, that sort of thing

Buy rolls of puff pastry, cut into small squares, add caramelised onion from a jar on each square and plonk some grated cheese on top. Bake for 10 minutes. Yummy!

Jamie Oliver had a program on TV about Christmas food this week. He made filo pastry parcels shaped like little Christmas crackers. Inside was brie, crushed walnuts and chives. He made a cranberry sauce dip but you could buy one of those.

That sounds delicious!

@Florol caramelised onion chutney or something different to that?

Mumwithbaggage · 13/12/2024 23:28

Perfect - thank you! Have added pastry/onion chutney and feta/peppers to my list. Don't want to faff with anything too fancy as I've had a very busy week and am out tomorrow. Fab ideas!!

A bit late for your party but in case it helps anyone else these mortadella breadsticks are amazing and taste better than the sum of their parts. I just add a touch of chilli paste to salted butter, roll breadsticks in them and wrap the mortadella round. So even easier than this recipe.

Far too late to the party, but I've had requests for the recipe for pull apart garlic bread:

  1. Make some bread dough, or buy a couple of cartons of pizza dough, and roll into smallish balls.
  2. melt half a block of butter, and stir through garlic granules, dried or fresh parsley and some grated parmesan.
  3. coat bread balls in flavored butter, and tip into a cake tin.
  4. cook - 180C for about 40 mins

Serve warm.
