Help! I can't think of anything I would like as a present from DH. I don't want to fill the house with unnecessary crap but would also be a bit sad not to get anything at all under the tree.

-Tickets to the theatre/spa vouchers would usually be nice but I'm ebf a newborn atm so wouldn't be able to use them for a long time and would worry about them expiring
-Clothes no good either as am likely to change size/shape a lot over the next couple of months
-I would love jewellery but dh finds this too tricky (he is a bit crap at present buying at the best of times)
-Would also love a trolley dash round Blackwells for books, but the house is full of books and no room for more!

It seems like lots of people on here think presents are just for the children so do I need to just grow up a bit and let dh off the hook? I love buying presents so will get something for him regardless.

Do you have a kindle? I loved mine for night time feeding x

Maybe think of little things that would make your everyday just a bit easier/ luxury?

I’ve asked for some nice hair spray from LUSH for my hair as I never buy things like heat protector etc myself, or lip balm as the school run dries me out! Also a bread knife as we don’t have a proper one and I’m sick of hacking at bread!

A heated blanket/ neck warmer for when your stuck in position feeding?

Maybe a book voucher or at least one book - or could he help you make room for more books and take some to a swap shop etc for you?

I agree it’s nice just having bits to unwrap and doesn’t have to be a big ticket item.

if you’d like a surprise maybe send him some jewellers and he can pick? I love Cult of Youth lockets and hoop earrings!

@TENSsion I do - bought for bought feeds with dc1! Though it is quite old now and not very functional so a new one might be a good idea as I spend a lot of time cursing my current one for freezing and not downloading stuff 😂

@cheddercherry I am actually desperate for a new toaster as our current one is shite and burns my toast every morning! Will stick that on the list. A lot of the little fancy bits I wouldn't buy for myself I got for my birthday which was a few weeks ago (another reason why I struggle at Christmas) but I would actually like some nice make-up to try and make myself feel a bit more glamorous, no easy task when I'm permanently wearing a cardigan covered in baby sick! A trip to the Chanel counter might do the trick...

Consumables so chanel shower gel say?

Iliketulips · 11/12/2024 12:01

I tend to ask for items like books, a mobile phone case, chocolate, fav alcoholic drink, coffee voucher for 'me' time, candles, diffusers. Are there any nice toiletries you like?

Dobbythechristmaself · 11/12/2024 12:02

I’ve asked for an Amazon echo car version. It supposedly helps you play your music hands free really smoothly and I’d love that both for ease and safety.

rhubarbhandsoap · 11/12/2024 13:48

Aw you don’t have to grow up! I love giving gifts and enjoy receiving them too! I also think it’s good for children to see everyone receiving something, and not that mum gets left out and isn’t important.

We don’t tend to do ‘big’ gifts for each other, on my list is perfume and hand cream, a new hot water bottle, and I usually get stuff like chocolates, Prosecco, a candle and a new notebook, all a bit nicer than what I’d buy myself 🥰🎄

Thanks for all the suggestions! I will definitely put some nice chocolate on the list, my favourite is Solkiki which is way too expensive to buy often though it's really good. And all of you saying toiletries has reminded me that there's a soap from ortigia that I love so that could be nice too!

@Dobbythechristmaself I will investigate this, my car is ancient and only plays radio 4 so this sounds promising!

@rhubarbhandsoap and thank you for reassuring me that's it's not bad to want presents Grin

Theatre tokens never expire, so you don't need to use them quickly. I recently used some I'd had for over four years - bought for me a couple of weeks before the first Covid lockdown and then forgotten about.

My pleasure 😉🥰

We had a few years of agreeing not to buy for each other but it’s a bit sad to go to a lot of effort for everyone else (kids, wider family etc) and then have almost nothing for me under the tree.

My DH claims he’s crap at buying jewellery and clothes so I basically named my two favourite shops (Oliver Bonas and White Company) and said I love everything in both, so he’s safe to choose literally anything from either.

vincettenoir · 11/12/2024 18:42

Maybe some fancy shampoo and/ or conditioner. Redken or Davines or Kerastase or something like that.

mewkins · 11/12/2024 18:50

New trainers/boots
Perfume
Ear pods or similar for audio books
Lovely scarf/gloves/ bag

DaveWatts · 12/12/2024 09:56

@wheneverwhereverwhatever I didn't know that, thanks! I go to the theatre a lot when not attached to a small baby so that could be a good option.

@SingaporeSlinky I like the idea of designated shops, our local museum has gorgeous jewellery actually

@vincettenoir good shout, I have been wanting to try New Wash but wincing at the cost!

@mewkins you have reminded me there's a bag that I've been wanting although it might be a bit too expensive at the moment...
