Anyone else absolutely not doing elf on the shelf?

I'm not doing Elf on the Shelf, and thankfully my kids haven’t asked about it.

I’ve also seen posts of elves being "naughty" and making messes. The whole idea is that the elf is supposed to watch kids to make sure they’re behaving, but then the elf behaves badly too? That feels a bit contradictory to me.

OP posts:

No cos it’s fucking bollocks designed to make WOMEN’S lives harder.

VegTrug · 10/12/2024 02:03

Us! 🙋🏼‍♀️ The first post nailed it, it’s designed to make our lives even harder

Ph3 · 10/12/2024 02:10

I’m doing it but it basically consists of the elf “moving” around the house in weird places and leaving sweets in the advent calendar 🤣🤦🏽‍♀️

user942557 · 10/12/2024 02:12

I'm with you OP.

The elf can go fuck himself.

Lessismoree · 10/12/2024 02:27

I don’t my kids found it terrifying that these toys come alive at night and run around the house . Can’t blame them to be honest .

🤣 made me laugh. Bless them! When you put it that way 🤭

coxesorangepippin · 10/12/2024 02:40

Green food coloring in water

That's as far as I going with my elf

heartbroken22 · 10/12/2024 02:46

@Lessismoree so true I find it creepy made me feel like Chucky...

LegoHouse274 · 10/12/2024 02:46

My eldest is 6 and we've never done it.

LimeYellow · 10/12/2024 02:48

My kids are teens now so too old. But I never did the fucking elf.

Tofu35 · 10/12/2024 03:09

I heard the elf was allergic to cats, so sadly he can't come to our house 😂

BlackChunkyBoots · 10/12/2024 03:19

Have never done it. 😂👍🏻

cobden28 · 10/12/2024 03:22

Whjat is 'elf on the shelf' ? I've never heard of this!

AutoP1lot · 10/12/2024 03:24

Abaolutely not, and they're 9 & 11 now so definitely won't be starting now!

User2123 · 10/12/2024 03:49

Absolutely not. No idea where this stupid trend has suddenly come from in the last few years but it needs to go away again fast. Have you seen the video doing the rounds on social media of the little girl who thinks her daddy has been turned into an elf? She's distraught and her mum's sticking the camera in her face laughing at her all for a few likes.

DD is 6 and had never heard of it until a friend brought their elf into school last week. She asked why don't we have an elf. I said the elves are very naughty, we don't want that sort of behaviour in our house so they aren't welcome here.

I'm with you OP.

The elf can go fuck himself.

I expect some people have him doing that.

Whatanidiot123 · 10/12/2024 04:36

Not a thing here. Doesn’t appeal to me as something to make a tradition for our family. Not a total grinch though, we do advent calendars, Christmas card making, tree decorating, Santa visits etc etc

BlueGlassVase · 10/12/2024 04:41

No, my kids are 7 and 9, they had a really imaginative teacher who did it brilliantly for them when they were in infant school so I never had to. Well done that man!

Toddlerteaplease · 10/12/2024 04:43

My manager asked me to do it the other night, when I was in nights. I pointed out that I hadn't put my bar on the list for a reason. I did do it though. Easter a bag of fluids, a giving set and a carton of ribena.

I am glad you have said this OP because everywhere I look people seem to be going all out. Some of my friends are pouring so much time and effort into this little knob every night, I must admit it can make me feel a bit bad. Writing a daily letter from the elf to their kids, like who has the time lol. My DC is 5 and if they ask I will just say he was on his way but got pulled back to North Pole on an important job 😂😂😂

BlueGlassVase · 10/12/2024 05:07

i have seen it done where the elf brings a letter every night which makes up a message. I thought that was a good idea and takes the faff out of it but I still haven’t done it.

urbanbuddha · 10/12/2024 05:27

The elf doesn’t have to visit the houses of children who’ve been good.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 10/12/2024 05:31

Hell no! I refuse to have even more mess to clear up. DD1 (10) did ask before and I just said he’s not allowed in our house because he’s naughty.

Squeezetheday · 10/12/2024 05:33

We’re not doing it either, think it’s a thing invented for people to show off on social media.

DD asked about getting one, as a PP said we also told her that the elf is too naughty and we don’t want it coming making a mess in our house. They have one at school so she had seen what “it” gets up to!
