I KNOW it’s not to everyone’s taste, I KNOW people could/will pile on about excess and budgets and gluttony, greed, and the spirit of baby Jesus himself … but I’m nosy and want to know 😁 I’m also here for the very divisive annual Christmas Fridge bunfight in a couple of weeks.

I’ll go first.

Thanks @ariaknox shes almost 15 and has read a couple of YA series with similar themes, from
what I can glean on common sense media it seems ok for her, appreciate the heads up though!

Word of warning- the last book (silver flames) is smut.

It's hinted at/dine gently in the earlier books- but the last book is 🥵🌶️

Crispynoodle · 16/12/2024 23:10

I promised to only do something they want
Something they need something to wear and something to read for my 2 DGSs because if I don't I would buy a toy shop each! So:
DGS 1 is getting a remote control Optimus prime, LEGO (and a LEGO table I mean they both need it right!) some boring clothes (usually their something to wear is dressing up clothes but their mum stole my idea of transformers dress up) although they each have a fox hat that you can squeeze to make the ears twitch. Then the eldest has a complete Roal Dahl collection.
DGS2 is getting a huge paw patrol hot wheels type track, all the different cars that go with it (he needs these) then boring clothes and non boring fox hat. Finally he's getting some books and a my first snakes and ladder game!

TheGirlWhoLived · 16/12/2024 23:37

If it’s any consolation @VegTrug that’s almost exactly what our eldest dd’s Christmas list looked like when she was 10. Our generation, Barbie’s, obviously dvd’s, bracelets, craft and soft toys.

please don’t judge my parenting too harshly!

@StepawayfromtheLindors I think it's more uncommon to only give one gift. I'm nearly 40 and when I was young I got a lot of gifts, so did my friends. All the kids i know these days get more than one gift too. There's nothing wrong with one gift but I really don't think it's common

SmokeRingsOfMyMind · 17/12/2024 08:12

DD (7 and a half) will get:

Mini pottery wheel
Sew your own teddy bear kit
Jellyfish lamp
Anti-gravity science kit
Dragonology book
Biscuit baking kit
Explodapedia book

Stocking:
Mini gyroscope
Felt sloth in a matchbox
Cardboard model meerkat kit
Emoji card game
Snowglobe craft kit

So smallish things but a few of them.

OMG so much STUFF you all give your DC. Mine get one gift each from us plus small things in stockings. When did it become common to give multiple gifts?

Really odd thing to say.

People want to give their DCs the best xmas with what they can afford, I myself use xmas to also incorporate things they need like clothing etc along with the things they want.

This poster must be living under a rock, seriously. It's always been this way since I was a child in the 80s. Nobody ever got just one present. Maybe 80 years ago that was the case. Unless they are living in a non Christian country but then they wouldn't celebrate anyway 💁‍♀️

Oh my god there is so much passive aggressive nipping and judgment on this thread, what difference does it make to you what someone you don’t know and will never meet gets their DC for Christmas. I love threads like these and mainly use for ideas.

Mine will likely have more then some and less than others the way it is for most and how it’s almost always been!!

We were meant to be cutting back but writing it all down, I don’t think, we have, WTF, it’s Christmas!!

Well I'm 34 and had a pile of presents every year. So it's been a while.

I’m 42, when I was a child we got a sack full of presents (mainly things we needed, like pj’s, slippers, a selection box and colouring pencils) then we would get one gift we had asked for. We had quite a big family so we would get quite a few gifts under the tree. I don’t think I know many people who didn’t have similar or more. My older dc have 12 gifts each and a stocking this year, a mixture of things they need and want but nothing mega expensive, if I had more money I would probably buy more, of get them experiences/tickets.

MoreIcedLattePlease · 17/12/2024 20:48

We did £100 budget for tree presents this year, so that was my maximum for (3) DC. I have gone slightly over with one, but his pile looks smaller!

Stockings we limited to £30 and contain pants/socks/chocolate/keyring type stuff.

Big presents:

DC1 (16)
Axe throwing experience (he's been talking about this for ages)
Remote control car
Calendar
Dressing gown
Spiderman Lego
Spiderman controller holder
Penguin run game

DC2 (13)
Money towards a graphics card for his PC
Shashibo cube
Lego
Breaking geodes
Lunch box
Dobble connect
Buddy Oliver cookbook
Clothes

DC3 (11)
Ticket to see Six on tour
LeMieux riding clothes (Vinted bargain!)
Bubble tea set
Lego
Fahlo polar bear tracking bracelet
Oodie
Set of Stacey Gregg books
Heelies

89redballoons · 18/12/2024 08:52

Got the stuff for the stockings now - each of mine (2 and 5) get slipper socks, little toy camper vans, bath bombs, a sticker book, rainbow pencils, little notebooks, chocolate coins, raisins and mini packs of cereal.

YouMeandBrie · 18/12/2024 09:10

DS1 collects a certain type of model and is very tricky to buy for so he only has those as he really doesn’t want anything else but I’ve managed to get hold of everything he asked for plus a surprise he forgot he mentioned near his birthday so I know he will be happy. I feel like I’ve also done well with his stocking this year, can’t wait for him to see it!

DS2 was supposed to come shopping with me but was unwell and as I work insane shifts at this time of year we haven’t had a chance to go again so he has some things he has sent me links to and others I’ve guessed at, two pairs of trainers, two aftershaves, some clothes, bits for the gym, a gaming chair, a PS5 game and vouchers and a football kit.

Tarnishedbutton · 18/12/2024 09:25

My little girl hasn't got much this year, I got really organised in October/early November then life went wrong and didn't manage to have the time or energy

  1. - dolls house bargain from house of Fraser
2 - paddington bear Tesco oodie type thing 3 - couple of little things you take apart and rebuild. 4 - toy garage.

She has things all year she will be fine 😆 last year she was so overwhelmed by it all she had presents for a week after.

Beansandneedles · 18/12/2024 09:38

DS(6)
Find it board game
Sum swap board game
Lego bus
Yoto cards
Hot wheels car (request from FC)
Moneybox

Plus have been asked to shop/wrap on behalf of various family members so there's also a phlat ball, veg growing kit and an airplane launcher thing.

DD(3)
Yoto player with headphones and cards
Lego food truck
Book
Sparkly bag
Doll baby carrier (request from FC)
Moneybox

Then same deal, from other family members she's got a colour in shop, dressing up costumes, umbrella

Stockings
Bath bomb
Hot chocolate spoon
Chocolate snowballs
Robofish
Multi colour pen
Satsuma
Candy cane

Feels like way too much. We usually visit family so I get DC one thing each plus an FC gift. But this year we're at home and I know I've gone ott, totally forgetting that just because we're not with the family doesn't mean they won't put their name on gifts!

It's really normal in my family to do multiple gifts. Was wrapping the family gifts last night and we've pretty much bought 3 things for everyone. Mum, dad, step dad, in laws, sister, brother, nephews, brother in law etc. They all have a gift labelled from me/DH and then one from each of my children. Can see how it piles up!!

oo pringles in the stocking is a great shout!

I wanted to put a mini can of fizzy drink in but I can only find them in multi packs :( Remember when you used to get them in the pick n mix section in woolworths? So handy!
