Pigs in blankets frozen

I bought some pigs in blankets on 18th Oct and realised they'll probably be too old to eat on Christmas Day - what do you think? They were fresh and I froze them once I got them - is 9 weeks too long?!

If you froze them as soon as you bought them they'll be absolutely fine. Nine weeks in the freezer is nothing.

Anotherfrozenpizzafortea · 06/12/2024 10:50

Eh? They'll be fine from the freezer! If you're worried send them to me to double check, I'll chuck 'em out if they're no good why oh why do we only eat pigs in blankets at Christmas?

BuzzieLittleBee · 06/12/2024 10:51

They will be just fine! I always buy them weeks before, as they're the kind of thing that often go out of stock just before Christmas.

Bjorkdidit · 06/12/2024 10:53

You do know what freezers are for right? How could they be 'too old'?

As long as they're wrapped up properly, they'd probably be fine after 9 years in the freezer, let alone 9 weeks.

I thought as much when I bought them but then found a load of websites suggesting you shouldn't freeze pork for longer than a month! Ok well you've reassured me!

As far as I know the ‘rule’ for frozen stuff is fish/pork/chicken/sausages/mince 3 months and beef/lamb 12 months. BUT, I remember my mum used to keep stuff in a freezer until it was utterly fossilised with no concept of ‘rules’. I’m talking 3 years for chicken, pork, sausages shoved at back of the freezer. At some point when she cleaned it out every few years, she put stuff shoved at the back into ‘eat’ rotation. None ever got sick or died. I can’t imagine you’d have any sort of issue.

Well they sell frozen pigs in blankets so think you are good. Unless of course you have just found them at the back of the fridge and are only just freezing them 😂

BurntOrange · 06/12/2024 13:31

Well I'm well within 3 months and I froze them as soon as I got them. Good point about frozen ones sold!

If you're very concerned you can eat them now, then buy more for Christmas? I would probably do that, just to be on the safe side... 😁

BurntOrange · 06/12/2024 17:09

@Pootles34 The thought had crossed my mind 😁
