Hi
I am desperately trying to think of something to get my 8 year old son who just reads everything he can about electricity generation! He’s obsessed!!
I know that one day when he’s older he might become an electrician or an electrical engineer but right now I’m struggling wahhhhhh!!!!
If you have ANY ideas, any at all please post.
I don’t think I’ll get many replies somehow. It’s a tricky one.

We got DD snap circuits at that age, there are a range of kits

Another vote for Snap Circuits. It's great and he won't out grow it.

My ds loved Circuit Maze by Thinkfun at that age

🥹 I can’t believe it!!!
You are absolutely amazing!!!!
I am off to look at all that. Thank you SO much x

My son was massively into electronics (still is) .. one year I bought him a 'build you own radio kit' was a huge hit!! Still has it 😆 and he's a teenager now!

Well... he will outgrow it if he develops a real interest in electronics , but if so then when he's a bit older you can get him a soldering iron etc. We got dd one when she was 12 (along with kits that needed soldering, and later boards and components for her own creations) - she used it when she did a summer internship stuck at home in 2021 after the third year of her MEng so she really didn't outgrow that!Grin

Maybe a visit to a power station - I've not done it myself but it looks like there's a few possibilities for nuclear stations

Or 'electric mountain' pumped hydro in wales is good, we went there a couple of times. There may be others.

Hadn’t thought about visiting a power station. He would love that.
And I think he’d love such a lot of these kits. I think he will be pleased with my offering after all xx

I was just coming on to suggest the same. This has some very good feedback from some my colleagues working on Hinkley.

Snap circuits do a green energy one- think it’s got a mini solar panel in it etc

Sunbeds · 05/12/2024 14:35

Unfortunately I don’t think you can visit electric mountain anymore. I don’t know why. That would have been fascinating. But there’s several nuclear power stations where you can still visit. I asked him if he’d like to go and he was so chuffed!! Thank you for suggesting that.
