What do you get your DC that don't like toys?

DD 7 has never been a toy fan. She prefers crafts and electronics but I usually get her a few toys too that never get played with. She very occasionally plays schools with her teddies but that's about it. I feel a bit bad, although I'm not sure why, but she honestly has never picked up toys to play with. Even when I try to play them with her, she doesn't enjoy it. What do you buy your DC that don't like or play with toys? She doesn't really appreciate clothes and shoes as resents, although I've seen a really cool, glittery pair of trainers that I might get her.

Crafty stuff?

Pens, pencils, paints, paper.

Hobbycraft might be a good place to look.

Mumof1andacat · 30/11/2024 12:57

Arts and crafts bits, clothes, books, hair accessories, make you own jewellery set, slime, animal handling experience at the zoo/farm, new bits for her bedroom (lamp, picture, cushions or bedding) stationery

Would she play bord game's? Or outside physical play like bike, scooter, trampoline (not best weather, but might get used come summer). Craft kits, something collectible, jigsaws, magazine subscription, annual pass to local attraction.

Bean bag chair
Big fluffy cushion
Put together a bundle of their favourite chocolates/sweets
Light box

Nice overnight bag (if it's something that would be used)
Infinity cube
Small games - Dobble, Uno, Pass the Pigs (normal or inflatable), Kluster.

Bedroom makeover - bedding, small rug, lamp, fairy lights, light fitting/shade, cushions and throw. New paint and curtains if you’re pushing the boat out

Desk and chair

Cookery book, apron and things to make the recipes eg cake tins, icing, decorations

Experience type things like cinema tickets (admit out with some popcorn, a drink etc), theatre tickets, zoo entrance, feeding experience - whatever your budget stretches too

Disney+ subscription

I’d lean into what she does actually like. If she’s into crafts, what about some acrylic pens, stones/rocks and a book of ideas? Or fimo soft, again with some implements and a book of ideas? Wet clay? Acrylic paints, watercolour set, watercolour pencils, pastels, big canvases?

Would she build stuff with magnatiles?
I had one like this when she was younger, definitely had more success with outdoor things.

TeamPolin · 30/11/2024 17:49

Simple musical instruments? Like xylophone, ukulele etc?

Minihero · 30/11/2024 19:12

A video camera and plasticine to make stop motion animations
An Amazon Echo to play music in her room

curious79 · 30/11/2024 19:15

An organiser board for her craft supplies - see IKEA Skadis range; cutting board; own scissors (decent ones)…. Go crafty!!!

Gleeanda · 30/11/2024 20:00

Mine is autistic and not into craft.

He got analogue things like Think Fun one player games, an old fashioned chess computer with physical pieces to move and a couple of introductory kids' books about chess, more books, squishmallow, paper aeroplane book, lego ideas book. Also an old phone, locked down, with music & audiobooks loaded on, as an MP3 player.

Maybe an electronics kit, or technic lego that's a few years in advance of her age.

I was like this. Activity sets - kids chemistry set / science experiments ( I remember one was growing salt crystals?) pottery wheel / jewellery making / archeology (you scratched out a buried fossil) / books / arts stuff : paints paper brushes pencils etc/ matchstick model kits. Model of the solar system to put together and paint.
