Do many of you have advent calendars? Or do you not bother?

I have a Tony’s Chocolonely one this year!

Dh had swizzles, ds has reeces and other ds has galaxy. DCats have a lily one to share.
Dh is doing me a fruit one each day as I've spent the year dieting!

Taytocrisps · 01/12/2024 13:54

So sorry to hear about your DMum @Judellie. Nice that you still have the calendar.

XiCi · 01/12/2024 14:36

I love advent calendars, have been looking forward to starting today. I have a look fantastic one, dd has a lindt and an emily in Paris one, dh has a beer advent and our dog has a pooch and mutt treat one 😀

DH and DS have Lindt ones, I have a German pictorial one (with glitter, as is Only Right And Proper)

Would you mind disclosing which exact one you have? Or the German make at least?

I get a different one each year and this one is by Tracks- v pretty pic inside, but No Glitter!

Teens have a mystery escape puzzle one between them because I got one of these and a lego one last year and the lego one is now far too young and some of the doors are still not built so I said no more! But everyone love the mystery puzzle one, so we have one between us all sort of, but really for the teens, they get to open a door on alternative days, and because there is chocolate in it I have a separate just chocolate one so the non-door-opening-teen gets a daily chocolate as well! Honestly, think we are too soft to be honest.

H is going to do the "science experiment a day" we've had for x2 years, started off well did the first two experiments then totally lost interest, so I am again the big bad wolf and said it's getting chucked after this December so it's now or never.

I have a 100ml a day wine one, which will be enjoyed on a daily basis.

Nothing is ever straight-forward in this household!

I've ordered myself a picture one

I have a picture one. For the kids I've filled one each with sweets, toiletries and small gifts. A calendar that contains 24 items of the same kind (other than chocolate) somehow seems very boring to me...

That one is so cute! I think I ordered the same picture calendar I had last year. I remember there were many birds in it 😅.

EarlofShrewsbury · 01/12/2024 17:46

I've not had an advent calendar since as I was a child. It was always an unnecessary expense.

This year we are, for the first Christmas ever, financially comfortable. I treated myself.

I have the yankee candle one.

Thanks. I ordered it from Amazon. I ordered the attached one in 2009 from Amazon which I think was German. I liked it and am annoyed with myself for recycling it as I could have reused it. I don't think you can get them here any more though. They seem to be available in the US

I usually go a bit mad for advent calendars but last couple of years have been difficult. But this year I've got an M&S chocolate calendar and the beauty calendar.

I sent my boys an advent calendar and christmas decorations box to their uni halls last week.

And for DH his advent calendar was undergoing radiotherapy sessions starting on 1st December last year so I filled a calendar with hanging bags full of flapjacks, brownies and things he likes. So refilled it again this year. They do mini Colin the caterpillars in markses- perfect size.

Thank you. I'm a bit giddy.

I've been at work all day and I'm so excited to get home, run a bath and get my first candle on the go.

The kids are excited because they have something a bit better than a £2 Cadbury one for a change.

chattyness · 01/12/2024 18:03

My dog has a gourmet sausage advent calendar 😆, last year he got a pooch and mutt one

Shopgirl2 · 01/12/2024 18:12

My MIL gave one each to my two kids and my husband, just not me! So I filled up the one I have (refillable boxes) with chocolates for myself. But now they all want them too! 🙃

LadyFlumpalot · 01/12/2024 18:22

I don't usually have one, but my wonderful sister surprised me with a beauty one! I'm well chuffed as I don't use beauty stuff enough to justify buying it for myself, but I do like to play around with it every now and then 🥰

Taytocrisps · 01/12/2024 18:28

DD works in a shop. Apparently a lot of people bought Advent calendars today. But complained at the poor selection of calendars. I mean, it's the 1st December!

HumanRightsAreHumanRights · 01/12/2024 18:34

My son has a tea one (Royal Blend today) and I have a refillable one with 2 chocolates or fruit jelly sweets in each day so we have one each (Napolitans today).

Iamblossom · 01/12/2024 18:41

I have a wine one
Bought my dad a gin one
Bought my dh a Lindor one
Ds1 has a men's toiletries one
But the best one of all is the Christmas odd socks one I have bought ds2, neither of us have stopped laughing about it, it's brilliant.

reluctantbrit · 01/12/2024 18:51

I have a book lover‘s one
DH as a Lindt one
DD has a Taylor Swift merch one

We had an absolute horrendous year, it‘s the last with DD at home all of December so we treated ourselves, DH is amused about it, he likes it but is not bothered with anything bigger than chocolate.

Hi, I have ones from Coppenrath and Richard Sellmer - both are very good for traditional appearance and glitter. I've got this one this year.

Littlemissgobby · 01/12/2024 20:46

I also have a Tony chocoloney advent calendar first time tried this chocolate normally i don't like dark chocolate but found today tasted very silky and smooth and very nice for dark choc

housethatbuiltme · 01/12/2024 20:51

I don't, anything halfway decent is usually wildly expensive.

The kids just get a standard £1 chocolate one which they are happy with, this year I got DH the wooden die hard one though.

ShamedBySiri · 01/12/2024 20:52

When my children were young I always chose calendars with a nativity scene. Usually bought from local church shop.
Now they are adult I've gone for country scenes, though this year is 101 Dalmatians.
I also send them a Jacquie Lawson Adventure calendar, they should have grown out of them really but DD said she still wanted one.

Same! I saw the dark chocolate label and was disappointed, but I actually really enjoyed it!
