Do many of you have advent calendars? Or do you not bother?

I have a Tony’s Chocolonely one this year!

I got a Bonne Maman jam one, and a picture one. When I was a child, in the 70's, me and my two brothers had to share a picture one and take turns! I always got to open the 1st as it's my birthday. Xmas Grin When my younger brother got a bit older he snuck down in the night and opened all the doors so Christmas Day would come quicker! 😂
I have got my nieces a chocolate one each.

I usually have a traditional one alongside a special one. This year I have The Book Lovers Advent Calendar which I am very excited about.
Ds(19) has a fabric one with pockets you fill yourself. He still loves it. I rack my brains trying to think of things to put in it.
Occasionally, the 3 of us share one too, like the year we had The Office one - which was amazing.
Dh doesn't usually bother but I might treat him to a Cadburys this year.

I also have a fill-your-own one and the days of a piece per day of a 24 piece santa jigsaw have long gone!
Last year I picked an ice cream theme (mainly because of my love of ice cream rather than DS’s!) - I put in different sprinkles, sauces and toppings so we could have ice cream for afters every day!
This year I’m going with a pancake theme - again different sauces, toppings and fillings like chocolate chips. I’ll freeze batches of pancakes so he can warm a couple each morning.

@AndMiffyWentToSleep oh that sounds amazing! How fun 🤩

Shodan · 30/11/2024 19:56

I bought 4 bog-standard Cadbury's ones- one each for DP, DS1 and DS2, and Ds1's girlfriend.

I bought myself a traditional one with just pictures, which is pretty, but had no glitter on it. It has glitter now though 😁

PotOfViolas · 30/11/2024 20:01

Last year I had a st eval tea light one as I wanted to see which scents I liked. I've not got one this year as obviously now I know which ones I like.

ShodAndShadySenators · 30/11/2024 20:05

DH and DS have Lindt ones, I have a German pictorial one (with glitter, as is Only Right And Proper)

AlligatorActually · 30/11/2024 20:07

I got the Stylist one this year - big treat as I felt like spoiling myself and I don't normally even have a cheap one

DDs have been kindly gifted Lindt ones by godparents but I've also bought DD1 (11) a Body Collection one (toiletries mostly).

DD2 (8) wants a gift advent calendar too but has rejected every single suggestion so far (fidget, stationery, toiletries, Lego - you name it). Obv we are out of time now and so she's decided to make the disappointment her entire personality for the rest of the year.

FlutteryButterfly · 30/11/2024 20:25

My DD 17 has the LF beauty advent calendar and DS 19 an Olde sweet shop one. Both ££s 😬

TeamPolin · 30/11/2024 20:34

Me and my friend made them for each other. We both love textile crafts so we went through our respective stashes and found stuff we didn't need and have gifted it to each other. My advent bag of goodies is sitting next to the bed and I can't wait to open something tomorrow!! 😁

sanityisamyth · 30/11/2024 20:38

DS has got a murder mystery one which he can't wait to do!

I've got a Where's Wally one. I like to have to really hunt for the right door.

Now this sounds good. I don't do advent calendars now DD is an adult but I think I'd like this one.

MissEloiseBridgerton · 30/11/2024 20:49

I am a sucker for an advent calendar!

I've got a Boots skincare one, and a Lindt one..

DH has a dice one and a Cadbury creamy one.

DD6 has accessorize and malteaser.

DS3 has Lego (which we will all enjoy!!) and malteaser.

All set out on the sofa with their new bedding, PJs and Christmas jumpers! Can't wait!

Standingontheedgeofforever · 30/11/2024 20:57

DD8 and DS6 each have the National Geographic gem stones one, DH has a Reece's pieces and I have Kinder Bueno.

Over the years, the DC have had a variety from Playmobil, to Jurassic World and Baby Annabel to when I can be arsed which wasn't this year or last year DIY with tiny filled bags...

Where do you actually put them all during December? I wouldn’t have enough clear surface space anywhere!!

wildfellhall · 30/11/2024 21:02

Is my son too old for one at 24?
DH says he's too old!

DH says he's too old!

I’m 28 and my DM buys me one every year. I’m going to say there’s no such thing as being too old for an advent calendar!

The kids have a galaxy one each. The dog has a sausage one and a biccie one.

ChannelLightVessel · 30/11/2024 21:35

I have Holland and Barrett, and DM bought me and DD (15) a traditional picture one to share (we got her a Hotel Chocolat one). I’ve got Hotel Chocolat for DD as well, but XH has gone mad and sent her Swizzels sweets, Star Wars Lego and Funko Harry Potter. We’ve had the Harry Potter one twice before, so I’ve offered it to DB. Swizzels would be fine except gelatine is listed as one of the ingredients on the back, so I hope we can work out which items are non-vegetarian. DD hasn’t done Lego for a few years, but I guess you can always come back to it.
We think opening may have to be an after-school affair.

ChannelLightVessel · 30/11/2024 21:39

I got DCat1 a calendar last year for the first time, but a few days in he helped himself to the rest of it. He and DCat2 (came to us in September) are not getting them this year.

I have a homemade one with little pockets for the DD's and I shove Lindt balls and choc lollies and other treats in for each day.
My MIL made it and it's a lovely thing. Bit more hassle than a bought one but it's tradition now.
DH and I don't have one which is a bit sad really might get a couple.

RedRiverShore5 · 01/12/2024 09:11

I have Hotel Chocolat, Niederegger and Bonne Maman jam, DH has Where's Wally.

They sit on the tiled fireplace in front of the unused electric fire

Judellie · 01/12/2024 12:47

Bought a Lindt one for DD; wasn't sure if DS (Asd) liked Lindt. He said he did like some of it so we've got a Cadbury one as well and they're going to alternate each day, I think.
I have got out all of the picture ones that we bring out every year, one in particular is very special as my mum bought it when we three were children and said it was us in the picture (two girls and a boy coming down the stairs in their night things to the Christmas tree and the presents, putting fingers to their lips).
It's even more special this year as this is the first Christmas without my mum and she loved Christmas so much, bless her.

I'm 62 and my mother buys me a traditional one with no chocolate.

Purplebunnie · 01/12/2024 13:07

I have a very old M&S calendar that you assemble little cardboard/paper houses together and you have specific spots to place them in a village scene. We lost it for years and then found when we moved

I don't take the houses apart anymore, it's a bit of a bind to go through the box and find the right house but I don't need chocolate (too fat). I've actually forgotten to get it out😂
