a nice tote bag for a 29 year old

I'm after a reasonably fashionable tote bag for DIL - 29, has a 6 week old baby, no real interests that I know of but has just started yoga. I've bought her some grippy socks for yoga and a neom candle, lip balm, a flat lay drawstring makeup bag and VB eyeliner so far but wondered about a tote. Any suggestions on nice ones that would suit someone who's style you are not that sure about?

I don't have suggestions for a tote as I'm about as unfashionable as they come but I just wanted to say these gifts sound lovely ❤️
(I do have a canvas tote that I got free with a Sezanne order thar I adore but I'm very old!)

No suggestions either, but what a lovely selection of gifts!

The Lulu Guinness for Waitrose / John Lewis bags are great value and really lovely! I just got this one - I also have a baby and it is a great size for all sorts you need to lug around with you.

How lovely! 😍

Do you have a rough budget OP?

Veeg34 · 28/11/2024 15:47

Elizabeth Scarlette do some lovely bags!

bitjel · 28/11/2024 15:47

Oh thanks goodness! I only have boys so am never sure if I'm on the right track for the girls-in law in my life! Maybe up to £150?

Lovely gifts! VB eyeliner is the best - good choice!

loropianalover · 28/11/2024 15:48

Lululemon daily multi pocket in black.

Alo Yoga and Ralph Lauren also have nice ones. Depends on the ‘type’ of tote you want really - something canvas/more sporty vibe? Or leather?

bitjel · 28/11/2024 15:49

My first thought was suede but has it's time gone now?

Ha £150 was way more than I had thought with my original suggestion. What a lucky lady - I’m sure you’ll get something lovely for that amount. I know a lot of new mums rate Finnson bags - they do stylish totes that also have storage for baby stuff

I was sort of guessing, I have no clue😂

I love my longchamp le pliage bags. I've got various colours and sizes that have held up really well for years. Currently waiting to see if they put on a Black Friday sale like they did in previous years because I'm buying one for a gift and they come beautifully packaged direct from longchamp rather than buying from other retailers.

Ive just got DIL junior (19) a mini pliage so I could get DIL senior the larger one. It's just so hard to know if they will like them or not as they are quite marmite I think.

Mind you I got the mini from Longchamp and it just came in a plastic bag.

I think this is a great idea. I love mine and I'm 50 and my 25 year old wants one. Really inoffensive and useful.

Fell down a black hole looking for suggestions and now have a new bag on my 'to buy' list 😂 (Not one that's even relevant to the thread!)

Agree with those saying Lululemon or Alo - these seem to be the totes of choice for the Yoga-goers at my gym! This is also on my wish list: www.anthropologie.com/en-gb/shop/melie-bianco-lydia-tote-bag?category=bags-totes&color=001&type=REGULAR&size=One+Size&quantity=1

My DDs are 27 and 32 and would hate the Longchamp bag. For Christmas DD1 has asked for a Uniqlo cross body bag and DD2 has asked for a Baggu crescent bag. Both seem highly practical but possibly not what you are after.

After years of mocking Le Pillage and thinking they are over priced Roy Cropper from Corrie bags,I was given one and I LOVE it! So that's my vote.

Whichoneisthebest · 28/11/2024 16:20

I absolutely love my Longchamp too. I’ve had her years and she is immaculate. Looks great bringing a bag of overnight wear, carrying my running gear to work or as a formal addition as my handbag if I’m going out for the day. I think the colour of mine is raspberry something. One of the best presents I ever got.

bitjel · 28/11/2024 16:24

For the record, she never seems to like any of the gifts I get her but I try every year!

I love bags - ted baker is normally good but not so much choice this year so I’m looking at Oliver bonas instead.
Have you asked her what she would like OP? Or tried a gift voucher? Seems a lot of money if she never likes your gifts.

Aw this makes me so sad. I read your post thinking it was the most thoughtful list of gifts ever and what a wonderful mil you are. ❤️

Ooh yes an Oliver Bonas gift voucher might work?

Yes I will. She's not that communicative but I'll ask! (that's probably not fair, she's just tired!)
