Desperately searching for a certain mug for DM (aged 83)

DM has broken her favourite mug and wants a replacement for Christmas… I have searched EVERYWHERE for a replacement and after a google image search, can only find it sold on a wholesale basis. Urgh!

At the age of 83, she really doesn’t want a lot…and I’m so desperate to find one…or even two.

The wholesale places won’t send me a sample and want a 10,000 piece minimum order… Urgh again.

I originally bought it from a gifty kind of farm shop in Shropshire years ago but I cannot - for the life of me - find ones to purchase online in ones or twos….

so, in desperation I thought I’d ask if the power of MN (which is spread far and wide) could keep an eye out during their Christmas shopping endeavours and if you see any for sale to let me know.

They’re porcelain with clear glazed stars. Think they also come in a hearts version which would be fine too. About 10cm high and 8cm diameter (roughly).

I am not even in the same hemisphere as you, but there is a factory that makes crockery not too far from me. And they sell to the public if there is a fault in any way. I always get a bit of a surprise when I go there as I have found all sorts that are shipped over your way. M&S, even Laura Ashley.

I just called them, and I am beyond disappointed that they don't recognise my description.

I had a small glimmer of hope there pre-phone call though.

So I am going to follow as I need to know if you manage to find something similar. They are gorgeous mugs. I would so have taken 1/1000 if I were closer 😃

I so hope you find the mug. Could you post on twitter/fb see if someome has one in their cupboard they'd be willing to part with? Someone must have one!
And when you find it, print this thread an put it in with the mug!

Out of interest.. How much is 1000 of them?
I'd be tempted to buy them if you or someone could make a profit on them!
You could sell them to an ebay seller/market seller or something if its feasible price wise!
Give your mother a set of 6 and sell the rest.

@OrangeCorduroy and @snowlady4 - it did occur to me that as a result of this thread, that I could start a small business importing porcelain mugs! (I’d certainly take a set of 6 too. So that’s 986 left…

I’ll see if I can dig out the email reply from the Chinese manufacturers…

@Frith2013 - I’m just back from Ludlow and went back into the shop ( the gift shop at the Ludlow Food Centre) but it’s a new company operating out of there. It used to incorporate a plant nursery.

The manageress did take my details in case she could find one.

I think I have fallen in love with the original mug so would have 6 too!

Well I have emailed the manufacturer in China to ask how much 1,000 of those mugs would be… have yet to hear back.

She'd sell 100 on mumsnet at the very most.

She'd still be left with 900 cups.

The mug for the OP's mum has arrived in New York! It is a very nice mug (even though it's not the right shape). I am flying with it to England and will post it on the 11th or 12th of Dec, so it will arrive in time for Christmas. I hope that even if the mug isn't quite right, mum will enjoy the story, and the travels of the mug...

Oh, and I will be happy to find homes for a few of the 1000!

Why not buy 1000 and sell the rest to the mumsnetters on this thread if you don't have any luck with the people offering to help. I'm sure you would have lots of interest.
