Desperately searching for a certain mug for DM (aged 83)

DM has broken her favourite mug and wants a replacement for Christmas… I have searched EVERYWHERE for a replacement and after a google image search, can only find it sold on a wholesale basis. Urgh!

At the age of 83, she really doesn’t want a lot…and I’m so desperate to find one…or even two.

The wholesale places won’t send me a sample and want a 10,000 piece minimum order… Urgh again.

I originally bought it from a gifty kind of farm shop in Shropshire years ago but I cannot - for the life of me - find ones to purchase online in ones or twos….

so, in desperation I thought I’d ask if the power of MN (which is spread far and wide) could keep an eye out during their Christmas shopping endeavours and if you see any for sale to let me know.

They’re porcelain with clear glazed stars. Think they also come in a hearts version which would be fine too. About 10cm high and 8cm diameter (roughly).

Thank you ☺️☺️☺️

Fear of holes is trypophobia, for you lot who feel peculiar looking at them!

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 25/11/2024 22:59

You absolute STAR @Greenfinch7 ! 😘 Please DM me if you think you can pull this one off

@PrimalLass - yeah… 1,000 mug minimum order! It’s probably the same wholesalers.

I mean Mum likes them, and I’d have a few… but 1,000 mugs?? 🤯

I’ll take a look on Vinted, pre loved sites and Reddit too. I hadn’t thought of going down those routes

@Goinggold - I’m in Shropshire atm, and went back into the farm shop to ask, but it’s been taken over by new people.
She did take my number and a description and said she’d call if she ever found them.
It was at that point that I felt a call to MN might help me.

@Ohyeahwaitaminute I'm not sure if you spotted that the mugs @Greenfinch7 found (and ordered) are espresso mugs, i.e. tiny?

Dimensions
2.37"Dia. x 2.12"H, 3 oz. capacity

@MWNA - thank you. I’ve dropped them an email.

@Greenfinch7 - that’s a beautiful mug. Have contacted them but as they’re in the US, they’re not stating that they ship internationally.

@CrowMate and @TheCompactPussycat That option could be option B 👍🏻

It might be more of a faff than you want but I’m US based at the minute and would ship it on to you if that would help. I get how hard it is to find gifts for older people sometimes.

edited to add that I see you’ve had other offers, so it looks like you’re set. 😊

Ignore me, sorry! I didn't realise they also sold normal sized mugs in that pattern too:

Looks like World Market doesn’t live up to its name in that it doesn’t post worldwide…

We bought the heart one from TK Maxx, it was a while ago so not sure if they still
sell
it but maybe worth a look.

they are in stock near me if you might like to see a picture in advance?

It’s World Market as they stock items from around the world (mince pies!) but I see your point. Grin

i just came across this thread - nothing to add but just wanted to say how lovely it is seeing all the help people are giving ☺️ who said Santa isn’t real eh! I hope your mum gets her mug OP, but if not she already has a very lovely daughter.

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 26/11/2024 05:18

If it is the size and shape she likes have a look at the East of India porcelain mugs...they are widely available in gift shops. Amazon won't let me link for some reason sorry,... but the one I saw on there was called I bloody love tea. Good luck with the search x

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 26/11/2024 05:27

Etsy also have some which looks similar size and shape...

You are all so kind taking time out of your busy days to help me. I occasionally contribute to threads like this (I’m normally elsewhere on other threads) but I’m really touched by your commitment to my Christmas cause.

I'd be sad if my favourite mug broke and someone bought me one that was similar but not the same. Obviously I'd really appreciate the effort, but it just wouldn't be right as it would be the wrong weight, thickness etc and I'd have to pretend to be all happy about it even though I would still be missing my favourite mug. I feel oddly strongly about mugs 😂

I totally get that! (And so would DM). Got to be ‘just right’…

fanaticalfairy · 26/11/2024 09:33

where have you found it wholesale?

JustHavinABreak · 26/11/2024 09:49

I'm in Ireland so I'll keep an eye out here too and if I find one, I'll send it on to you

Could try on there

I can't say that I understand it tbh.

Ive never insisted on someone getting me the exact same mug that I've had before.

It seems a bit odd.

Especially as cup designs come and go, and it would be hard to get a cup exactly the same, as the one that you had.

Any similiar mug would do

OrangeCorduroy · 26/11/2024 15:02

I mean we could buy 1000 between us probably

I agree. Surely by the time you're in your 80s you've come to terms with the fact that shit happens. Just get a different lovely mug.

Yes, that’s the point, shit happens. So somebody making a little effort to do a small kindness like track down a replacement of a favourite mug is a little ray of sunshine. As my teenage daughter would say, it’s not that deep.

OrangeCorduroy · 26/11/2024 15:18

Yeah my mum never really wanted anything that specific...if she had I would have done probably anything humanly possible to get it for her!

If you love your mum (and I appreciate some have reason not to) why wouldn't you try and get her heart's desire?
