Was with a group of friends earlier, discussing Christmas, and how many people are going for the nostalgia of 80’s/90’s Christmas. I’ve been doing it this way my whole life and the kids love it. No aesthetic Christmas in our house.

Born in 88, my Christmases from then until I was about 16 consisted of …
Christmas Eve - walk into town for a maccies, kfc or Burger King, look at lights on the way home, movies and bed, a bit later on at age 10, spent time in the pub across from our house that my Nan, uncle and aunt worked in.
Christmas Day.. wake up and open presents, breakfast and then straight around to my nans house, open more presents there and then pop to my other grandparents who lived 5 minutes away. Then back to my nans for Christmas lunch, a nap for the oldies, Tv, card games, snacks and then we’d go home about 11. Back to nans on Boxing Day for a Buffet and quick trip to town to check out some sales.
we moved in with my Nan when I was 17, after my grandad died and then I had DS when I was 19. Still living at home, DP moved in, we kept the same traditions and made new ones, 2007 whilst pregnant, heavily… (DS was born Jan 5th) I decided to have Chinese Christmas Eve, we still do that now 17 years later. Only once during covid did we not have it as the local caught covid and we had fish and chips instead. We moved a year after DS was born, we pretty much still do the same traditions, tree, Boxing Day Buffet, Chinese Christmas Eve, watching a nightmare before Christmas, cards on Christmas night. Scratch cards at the Christmas table, bacon sarnies for breakfast.
weve also started new ones, new pjs Christmas Eve, driving around looking at Christmas lights Christmas Eve getting a cheeky McFlurry, opening stockings in our bed (started this when DS was old enough) big Christmas light scenes outside. The public love it. J20 glitterberrys with every meal over Christmas. Usually buy about 40 bottles 😂 my uncles who live near by and are invited but usually spend with thier best friends, drop by every Christmas morning to see us. We pop round on New Year’s Eve usually. Sometimes New Year’s Day, as they live fairly close it’s only a 15 minute walk.
no matter what whilst the kids still enjoy it, it’s all for them. I love seeing the joy on thier faces, they are not spoilt, appreciate everything and absolutely love our traditions, ask every year if we are still doing them.

christmas is what you make it, you shouldn’t be pressured to spend x amount of money, shouldn’t be pressured to spend it with anyone. It’s not a competition. We should all stop judging each other and be happy with what we do…
so how has Christmas changed for you over the years?
