Treat bits - when do you put yours ‘out’?

My late teen kids joke that the Christmas stash (as they refer to it) is out of bounds til a certain date (usually 23rd ish Dec). I’m just curious as to when you have your treaty bits out for general consumption?

Sorry, that was meant for @UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername ... unless anyone else's DH has a curd cupboard...

I'm fairly confident that the list of people's DHs with curd cupboards is fairly short Grin

He found a company that sold interesting curds, started putting together an order, and got carried away. Then found a second company and did the same. Now we have 30-odd jars of curd stacked up in order of use-by date. I'm not complaining, mind you; the orange one we had on pancakes this morning was divine and I'm keeping a jar of cherry for a pancake morning close to christmas (possibly on Tree Weekend), with some whipped cream and grated chocolate.

StrawberryWater · 24/11/2024 14:41

From Christmas Eve here.

Usually just leave it all in the cupboard and people take what they want rather than putting it out though.

PrimalLass · 24/11/2024 14:55

I don't think we particularly have lots of extra stuff in before Christmas. Some mince pies maybe.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 24/11/2024 12:22

We have a pretty glass jar which gets filled with Lindor on the first, and everyone's allowed one a day. Though we start on the other stuff around then too. DH is a massively over-enthusiastic treat buyer and it's hard to keep up with him. I'm going to introduce him to the Shrine of Gluttony idea, he'd love it. He has a Curd Cupboard at the moment Confused
We might have to have a Shrine to Gluttony photo thread as companion to the ever-controversial Christmas Fridge thread.

Ooh I like the shrine of gluttony photo thread.

I've got a Christmas Shelf in the pantry , my DS will appear with something in his sticky paw and ask "Is this for eating or Christmas?" with a hopeful tone in his voice .

Big glass jar for sweets on the coffee table . At the moment there's a tub of Heroes decanted in it .

I dont have things like this in the house. A big xmas lunch is quite enough.
Its taken me a year to go from obese to normal after a lifetime of being fat so I just dont think weeks of eating is very healthy.
Killjoy? Maybe.

Edited

Well done on the weightloss, but I think it's all mindset.

A mince pie over the weekend, a couple of chocolates or Christmas biscuits doesn't do anyone any harm.

LadyGabriella · 24/11/2024 16:46

Anytime in December is acceptable. Just stagger them.

LilacLilyBird · 24/11/2024 16:51

What do you mean by Christmas stash

I have a constant supply of nuts, caramelised nuts, dates, chocolate, biscuits, mince pies, lebkuchen and sweets for December

We don't stuff our faces so I do t really have to top up much

LilacLilyBird · 24/11/2024 16:59

So far we've had Lindt, caramelised nuts and mince pies

Womblingmerrily · 24/11/2024 17:04

Our shrine to gluttony is declared open at DH finishes work for Christmas.

It has to be when he finished as I work all through it.

I like the idea of fairy lights and special paper/cloth to really emphasise it.

As we're not religious Christmas is a total celebration of gluttony really - it's the best bit for us. We don't like stuff, not really into gifting so it's all about the food and drink.

I'm quite fond of the lights though, so if I can incorporate that into the gluttony it can be a celebration of food, drink and fairy lights.

LadyGabriella · 24/11/2024 17:06

Such a shame that quality street is so non quality these days. You could always have a tub out in December that would keep being replenished.

shellyleppard · 24/11/2024 17:07

As late as possible or we end up eating them all before the big day!!! Christmas day itself there are bowls of fancy crisps, quality street and roses dotted around.

Cheersmedears123 · 24/11/2024 17:10

We usually bring out the Christmas snacks when we get our Christmas tree. So around mid-December.

2catsandhappy · 24/11/2024 17:43

I am eying up the meagre supply of electric sockets and wondering if I can set up a twinkly lit Shrine to Gluttony.
If I ditch the tree I could make it happen.

Yay, I've never started a MN trend before! I love the idea of other Shrines to Gluttony popping up 😊😊😊

Have you ever seen the uproar around the Christmas fridge threads? I've a feeling a 'Shrine to Gluttony' thread would go down even worse than those! 😬 Xmas Grin

I'm loving the idea of one though...and I have just the location for one! 🤔

TouchOfSilverShampoo · 24/11/2024 10:49

Shrine to gluttony sounds absolutely wonderful!!!!

"Shrine To Gluttony" needs to be a band's name!!

SnapdragonToadflax · 24/11/2024 17:56

When we've all finished work/school... so usually around the 23rd, but this year we're all finished on the 20th and that feels a bit early! Will be nice to have a few festive days off before Christmas though.

Yay, I've never started a MN trend before! I love the idea of other Shrines to Gluttony popping up 😊😊😊

Only problem is, somebody will be along soon making comments like, "Read the room" ...and, " Disgusting when there's a Col crisis at the moment"... Personally, i say, long live the Shrines to Gluttony!!

sprigatito · 24/11/2024 18:03

@Bbq1 doubtless the UPF brigade will be on it like a bonnet as well! But I think it's a pretty ancient impulse to indulge and gorge a little in the dead of winter (and the more twinkly lights the better!)

waltzingparrot · 24/11/2024 18:03

I've usually eaten the secret Christmas stash by about mid December. I then buy the second one and try really really hard to have some of it left for Christmas eve when it is officially available for all household members.

PaddingtonInPeru · 24/11/2024 18:07

Already working my way through gin and mince pies to be honest... I don't condone it though. Mid Dec for most things I'd say.

I'm absolutely holding the line on Christmas decs, I'm not an absolute heathen. I've agreed Dec 1st and am immune to protests from the Children. Even that is too early for me. Nov just ain't happening though, moan away kids 🤷‍♀️

DiscoBeat · 24/11/2024 18:08

We don't ever leave things out, we just get them out of the cupboard. I didn't know it was a thing!

DiscoBeat · 24/11/2024 18:09

(anyway, we couldn't leave chocolate out because of our dog)

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 24/11/2024 12:19

I don't really buy anything in particular, other than some After Eights. I used to always get the tubs of twiglets, but they've changed the recipe and they are all wrong now. The after eights get opened on Christmas Day.

In the past I had a Christmas treat drawer in the dining room. One year I went to get the After Eights out, smiling with anticipation and licking my lips, mmm......all that was left was the empty box with all the empty black paper squares in it.
Yes son, I have still not forgiven you and I never will.

Onlyvisiting · 24/11/2024 18:23

sprigatito · 24/11/2024 10:42

We have a "Christmas side" in the dining room which starts accruing in November and builds up until it's declared "open" on Christmas Eve. It's cleared off and covered with sparkly paper, and the treats and sweets are arranged on it with fairy lights etc. It's one of the few traditions I've carried through from my childhood, and my adult children now love adding to it and helping arrange it nicely. I did have one friend tell me it was a disgusting "shrine to gluttony", so clearly it isn't everyone's cup of tea!

That's awesome, I want a gluttony shrine too 🤣
