Hey everyone 💗
so my 7 year old daughter has been talking for the past month or so about getting the giant barbie dream house… is it worth getting one at this age? (We do have a 3 year old daughter aswell who will probably play with it)
but I’m really worrying about the size, it would JUST fit in her room. She’s never played with one before she’s only seen it on YouTube etc
can anyone give me any advice before I go out and buy this monstrosity 😂

How about something a bit smaller like a Barbie townhouse?

They're still big but a lot smaller than the dreamhouse.

I think age-wise it's fine, she'll get a few years out of it and then you have the little one too.

But it is an absolute eyesore and I just don't think I could have one in my house (unless I had a spare room that I never used to put it in). I don't think any amount of play would make it worthwhile tbh.

I'd tell her that Santa won't bring things that don't fit and you don't have space for it and show her some alternatives to get her excited about something else.

If you can afford it, I would just get it.

We got my DD 7 now this a couple of years ago, it’s great as it can be folded away. She’s lost interest a bit recently but she’s the youngest of 3 DDs and wants to be more like her big sisters. There a lot of these in the charity shops, especially before Christmas.

An alternative might be the mini brands dressing table and some fashion mini brands, they are designed for Barbies. And a lot smaller than an actual house.

You can always sell it on afterwards to recoup some cost. But it sounds like your kids will love it and play with it.

fluffyblanky · 24/11/2024 01:31

Ahhh they are only little once. Definitely get it.

I was reluctant to but one for my daughter. We ended up getting it at around 7 or possibly 8. It is the toy she played with most out of all the toys she has ever had. We got it when she was in year 3 and at the end of year 5 she wanted to get rid of it. Had no issues selling it (it went almost straight away for £75).

Get it, it's a monstrosity, but she can trade down to the townhouse if she wants. We always bought stuff like that second hand even for Xmas. I give them a choice when they write their list "this much if we buy new, and you can have these extra bits if we buy second hand"

Cluckycluck · 24/11/2024 18:27

Take a look at the Juniper Workshops ones from Argos. They are cheaper and look nicer.

It's been the most played with toy in my house. It looks as good as new. Yes, it is huge and expensive but it has been worth it.

haje · 24/11/2024 18:29

Others might not agree for Christmas but I have picked one up from FB marketplace. It's lovely. And the kind lady gave me lots of dolls as well. Biggest bonus is I don't need to build it

EliCopter · 24/11/2024 18:29

I think they often come up for sale on local Facebook groups so maybe get one from there if you can find one in decent condition? And then just have it out on Xmas day with a big pink bow on it

TickingAlongNicely · 24/11/2024 18:32

Its sort of sad parents worry that kids are too old for barbie at 7. Its the age they are supposed to be starting to play with it!

reetaskeeta · 24/11/2024 18:33

I got one for my youngest dd for her 7th birthday.

My entire house is shades of white and very minimal in decor. In my language they'd say I put a rock on my heart and bought it 😂

She absolutely loves it and has played with it every day since July. It's on sale on Amazon at the moment. Go for it.

reetaskeeta · 24/11/2024 18:35

@TickingAlongNicely yes you're right. My dd has been playing with Barbies only this last year. 7 is prime childhood age!

NewUser1111 · 24/11/2024 19:03

I’ve gone for the camper van as wanted something Barbie ish for our 7yo to play with but couldn’t face the Dream House (sorry!)

UpTheMagicChristmasTree · 24/11/2024 19:10

We got the 60th Celebration one for dd when she was 5 (same as the one before the latest one but more purple than pink). She hasn't stopped playing with it since, it came with loads of accessories, Barbies and a car and is just brilliant really. She's 7 in a few months and is showing no signs of losing interest in it.

The latest one is more difficult to place in a room because of the shape.

mnahmnah · 24/11/2024 19:13

The Christmas I got my Barbie house was the best Christmas ever! I remember it so well and I’m 45 now! I don’t remember other Christmases the same. I just have been 7 too. Even if she only plays with it for a year or two, it will be so special for her. Then just dismantle and store until your younger one is older.

fluffyblanky · 07/12/2024 08:19

Hello OP did you get the dream house?!M

mitogoshigg · 07/12/2024 08:24

She's only 7, of course she can still be playing for a good few years yet. We are trying to encourage our girls to stop being kids too young!

As for the space, that's your call!

Oaoejvr · 07/12/2024 08:26

We got one for DD when she was 6 after she campaigned for it for about 6 months; she’s now nearly 8 and plays with it as much as ever. It is big so I’ve said she can’t have other big presents due to space but she’s fine with that and even uses it to her dolls as well as Barbies. I’m glad we got it despite the cost
