I am posting on behalf of a friend who has a little one who is eight, on 23rd Dec.

Desperate need of birthday and Christmas ideas.
Already has switch, Lego, kindle loads of craft stuff.
Is at a tricky age where she still wants toys but so many are too young for her and she really doesn't know what she would like. Barbies, dolls etc are out and she already has a scooter and bike.

We would love ideas for her, especially for things that she can actually play with on Christmas day as so many gifts for 8 year olds are too fiddly or messy to get out when guests are about.

Thank you

My little girl is 8 on 18th December and we’re having the same issue. Luckily, she’s getting a bike for Christmas. She’s also got a jellycat, squishmallows, how to draw everything book, sketch books and pencils, moana lego, a scrap book making set, some ugg style boots and some washable make up.
It is an awkward age because she wants to copy her big sister who will be 12 but still likes to play too.

Based on DS2 (8) and his (often female) chums…

Board games (Carcassonne and Ticket to Ride are huge hits here and also cooperative ones like Forbidden Island)
outdoor kit if there’s a garden (swing ball set or badminton set)
Magnetic dart board was the big hit from family last year
DS2 is desperate for a foosball table…we’re going to get him and DS1 (12) a gaming table that will do foosball, table tennis and billiards.

When dd was 8 last year she got a beanbag, hair colour chalks, a gingerbread-cottage lego, a paint-by-numbers canvas, a fashion design notebook & mini-mannequins, and a load of little bits and bobs like cat-paw socks or harry potter music box.

she’s always liked doing-activities more than toys, so i just lean into it.

A fun switch game? Untitled goose game is good, or hogwarts legacy for something more involved .

If she likes harry potter, there's a harry potter polly pocket out at the moment. Bertie botts every flavour beans always go down well.

A funny Christmas themed book/puzzle book e.g..Cluedle

Nice pens - legami, posca,calligraphy

A classic Christmas jigsaw

Even when they have loads of lego if they love it they are always happy to get more!

If you're seeing any of this season's new movies e.g. Wicked or Moana 2, there's lots of merch on sale at the moment. M&S has some great Wicked PJs etc. I think Boots is doing a makeup line but I haven't properly looked at it and it may be a more serious line aimed at teens rather than being play makeup

A beanbag
A microscope you can plug into the computer
Balloon modelling kit
Diablo

My DD (8.5) is still very much into toys - she wants a new baby doll, double pushchair and barbies this Christmas.

But she also loves all art and craft and so I am putting together an art trolley (one of those 3-tiered ones on wheels and filling it with felt and acrylic pens, pencils, paper, stickers, pom poms, craft sticks, modelling clay etc) as a joint present for her and her brother. Have also got her a loom band set.

And other things she's loved include:

Beanbag
Squishmallow
Yoto player
Roller skates
Hexbugs
Magnetic tiles
