DNiece is 15 and aspires to join the Army. Can anyone recommend any books based on women in the Army that would appeal to a teenager. Or any inspired gifts on the same theme?

Could she join the cadets?

Could she join the cadets?

Yes she's joining in the new year.

What about a book on survival skills?
Is she in the cadets?
Is she doing any expeditions (like D of E?) In which case little bits for her kit might be useful.

If she is joining- could you check the cadets website to find something she would like?

Geocaching stuff?

If you are talking about officer training, she could read An Officer and a Gentlewoman which is the story of a female army officer from Sandhurst through to Afghanistan and everything in between. I think it's about 10 years old so it might be a bit dated now, but I remember thinking at the time that it gave a pretty good insight into what goes on.

Look at 'Corsets to camouflage' by Kate Adie. I read that when I was thinking of joining and found it really interesting
I think she's written some others too

If she's joining cadets I recommend some of the kit they'll be using that doesn't get provided; mess tins, decent compass, boots, good backpack.
