How old is too old for Magnatiles?

I’ve got an almost five year old who I’ve still to buy a Christmas gift for.

They don’t have Magnatiles yet (my little ones have lots!) and I was wondering if, from experience, your children aged 5+ still got a decent amount of play out of these?

My 5.5 still plays daily with his and we are adding more this Christmas. His building is getting more intricate and his ideas are expanding as he gets older but definitely no signs of him stopping playing with them any time soon!

My 11 and 8 year olds still play with the magnatiles I bought for their first birthdays most days! Best longevity toy ever…

Trufflebrie · 21/11/2024 22:09

Thank you - that’s great to hear

My seven year old enjoys playing with them and we had a 17 year old visit who built some pretty intricate stuff with them!

A 8 year old here still loves them. How they play with them changes as they get older.

Lostthetastefordahlias · 21/11/2024 22:20

My 6 year old has been playing with them for years, plays with them in all kinds of ways - she loves doing mosaic patterns at the moment, my 4 year old uses them with his train set & farm to make tunnels and fences etc, but also if they are out everyone who comes to the house plays with them including adults! So I would say definitely go for it. More popular than lego here.

Mine are 3 7 and 11 and all still play with them regularly.

AnneLovesGilbert · 21/11/2024 23:13

My 5 year old is obsessed with them. They’re a brilliant gift. We got them nearly 4 years ago, topped up with an additional couple of sets last year and you can’t tell the difference between the old and new ones, they’re indestructible.

My niece is 6 and she already has magnatiles but has asked for more so that she can make bigger models. My ds is 7 and still regularly plays with his.

LargeJugs · 21/11/2024 23:25

I'm 35 ... I like them

IceStationZebra · 21/11/2024 23:30

Same @LargeJugs and I’m even older than you. Getting some for DS this year I think, good to see some longevity reports!

Mothersruin123 · 21/11/2024 23:33

Awesome gift. 10 year old DD still plays with them if we get them out. As does my 40 year old friend! 😁

oobedobe · 21/11/2024 23:48

the only toy that I'm never getting rid of, my kids are 12 and 16 they haven't played for ages but I know they would if I got them out again

Lindtnotlint · 21/11/2024 23:56

Definitely definitely not too old!

Trufflebrie · 22/11/2024 00:42

Thank you. This is great to hear.

it’s also lovely to read that ten and eleven year olds are still playing with toys.

They do lots of themed sets as well now, I kind of covet the forest and animals ones http://www.bladons.co.uk/magnatiles?product_id=673. They do building/construction specific ones and adaptations to make them into vehicles too.

I could have really done without seeing these when I’ve bought most of my girls’ Xmas and early Jan birthday presents… Now I REALLY want to add these to our magnatiles collection, they would go down very well!!

WhatHaveIDone21 · 23/11/2024 13:24

I took my DC's old Magnatiles in to my class (I teach 6 and 7 year olds) and it's the most popular thing at wet play!

CouchSweetPotatoes · 24/11/2024 10:06

Second only to Lego in our house, popular with every age child and adult who visit!

I do agree on getting as big a pack as you can afford. Also the vehicle bases are really useful.
