Are Tonie Boxes worth it for 3 year old?

I'm keen to get one but DH thinks it will be a flash in the pan. She loves stories and being read to but I'd like her to be able to have something she can pop on herself in the mornings if she wakes up early. She's played with them in toy shops before and was a struggle to tear her away!

Idea would be to get her the box as her main present and grandparents/aunties would give her the tonies to go with it.

Thanks!

We were gifted a toniebox (probably wouldn't have chosen it) for my DS third birthday.. He doesn't play with it as such but it's part of the bedtime routine for him to choose and listen to a story- he's had it nearly 2 years now. My DD9 actually loves it - we bought her one subsequently -and she still uses it every night (and morning) -listens to roald Dahl, Enid blyton, David walliams etc. she has an echo dot in her room, and we have audible and spotify - but she prefers the toniebox at the minute.

My almost 5-year-old has had hers since her second birthday. She loves it. She loves books too but this gives her some independence. We also recently got the podcast Tonie and she's obsessed with it.

My two love it. Like PP we ended up getting a second as they were fighting over it. They are 5 and 3. My 5 year old got it for her first birthday and has loved it since. She is now graduating to older stories Matilda etc and they have educational ones as well. Would highly recommend.

As PPs have mentioned, have a look at Yoto instead. Same concept but the cards are cheaper and have a wider age range. They usually run black friday deals too. Got ours last Christmas for my then 2yo and it is used daily. Also has a daily podcast, yoto radio feature and you can play cards through the yoto app via Apple car play/Android auto.

Get the Yoto. We’ve had ours since 18m and it gets used nearly every day (they’re 3 now). Friends have got the Tonie and they’ve grown out of it now.

We take it on holiday, in the car, everywhere! It’s so good and it syncs to your phone so you can play it anywhere even if you don’t have the player. You can remotely turn it off and change the story (a godsend when they’re at the stage when they are asking for things to get you to come upstairs after they’ve been ticked up in bed). One of the best presents we have bought.

We've had our tonie boxes since the boys were two and three. Imo they've grown with them. They still love them and they are nearly 7 and nearly 8

Same, we bought a second one and they both just love them.

Everybody with kids I know prefers a yoto, my best friends daughter was given a yoto at 2 and still uses it now she is 6! Uses it everyday

I agree. The Yoto player is infinitely better than the tonie. So many more books to choose from and loads of other functionality too - like podcasts, yoto radio etc. You also only have to buy credit card size cards rather than heaps of plastic figures.

The yoto also has a far greater range for older kids so has a much longer lifespan. My kids and her friends have had theirs for years and still love them.

Yeah, get a Yoto instead, they’re amazing
