Help - looking for ideas / inspo for Christmas gifts. My 18 year old is travelling to Australia in the new year and I’m out of present ideas. So far I have - cosmetics (boots beauty box), passport holder, eye mask, ear plugs, bikinis & summer clothes (so jealous!), new trainers, sandals and comfy trackies for the journey, plug adaptor, books, towel. Any other ideas appreciated!! ☀️

You do know she has a weight limit in her suitcase, enough is enough. Put some money in an account for her incase she needs a top up when she gets there.

Sleeping bag liner - I went to Australia when I was 18 and travelled in the New Year and I was so grateful for my sleeping bag liner. I was staying in hostels though and dorm and it was really hot and I just didn't want the duvet or really to be touching the bedding and to protect myself from creepy crawlies.
Small things - battery pack, selfie stick, sun cream, insect repellent, packing cubes, travel size first aid kit

A travel journal.

And cold hard cash!

Yeh good point Australian dollars and a money belt - one of those discreet ones

Fairyduster24 · 19/11/2024 19:42

Money!

passport cover is pointless you must remove them when in airports :/

Lonely planet guide if she hasn't got one already although maybe for specific part of Australia so it's not too heavy

A dry bag for her phone and anything that she wants to protect during heavy rainfall as often rucksacks are not waterproof.

A decent padlock for dormroom lockers on hostels.

Noise cancelling headphones for the flight if you're looking for a bigger gift

A small practical first aid kit.
A small sewing kit
Insect repellant bands and the like.
A subscription to a cloud service for photo backup.

Money is always welcome for a travelling teen.

A travel carbon monoxide alarm

Nice bamboo socks, they're breathable and lighter than wool/cotton ones and they'll dry quicker if she needs to wash them overnight

A lovely sarong which could be used as a wrap/blanket/pillow/shawl/sheet/tablecloth etc...

Agree with a travel diary! Or just a nice notebook that she can make a diary.

Would say a pack of cards but not sure if backpaxkers play them so much now?!

Thanks so much for all the helpful suggestions :)
