John Lewis Quality Street 'reward'

There was quite a bit of discussion about this on the main threads; so rather than clog these up thought I would update everyone on a new thread.

Lots of posters had the above 'reward' but were unclear what it actually was. Did you get a free tin or even better free chocolates?

I emailed JL and apparently the 'reward' is that you can chose just on chocolate rather than a minimum of three different ones like the plebs. So you definitely have to pay for both the tin and the chocolates.

I did reply that this didn't really feel like a reward and they thanked me for my feedback but didn't send me any chocolates unfortunately.

Sorry for the bad news; hope you all got some bargains elsewhere.

Thanks so much for the update I was fascinated by their attempt at framing this as a reward and love that you gave them this feedback 😂🙌🎄

Funnily enough I've just seen a tiktok about this. So it's the 'pick and mix' Quality Street and you usually have to choose a minimum of three different chocolates, but if you're a JL member you can fill the tin with one chocolate. Not sure that's worthy of being called a reward 🤣

I'm sure they said it cost £17.50 too!

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/11/2024 19:49

Seems exclusive, costs them nothing. In fact, it's probably cheaper in staff time.

Absolutely and even without the so called 'reward' surely you can just put one of two other different chocs to meet the rules. How strange.

LePetitMaman · 17/11/2024 19:57

Unbelievable! That's no reward!

WhitbyBee · 17/11/2024 20:07

Last year i bought all purple for my DM from JL. No suggestion at all that you couldn’t have just 1 kind.

That’s what I thought, do the staff actually check you have at least three different ones?

I'm picturing the security alarms going off as you try to exit the store with your tin full of toffee pennys!

That's the worst reward ever! Don't think I'll complain about my free loaf of bread from sparks ever again!

AltitudeCheck · 17/11/2024 21:39

It was £7.50 for a (large) cracker full. I was happy to be able to get all fudges for someone who loves them. No one checked though!

tealdrop · 17/11/2024 21:40

Thank you for the update, this is what I thought.

What a ‘reward’!

We’d need to few types to keep everyone happy!

They fill the tin for you unless it has changed. You cant fill your own.

WhitbyBee · 17/11/2024 23:04

Just checked my receipt, 1st December last year- and I got a free soft toy cactus thing. It was £15 for the tin and the contents- all purple

Floralnomad · 17/11/2024 23:04

They’ve changed the wording on the ‘reward’ now so it’s very clear what the cost is , I reckon they’ve had a fair few confused customers .

WhitbyBee · 17/11/2024 23:06

I am over invested. Have now found a receipt from 2022- it will have been the same- all purple.

KateJ521 · 18/11/2024 05:52

How come I don't have this "reward"? Do all members have?

I visited the Trafford Centre recently and it appears you fill your own there. Like most stores they don’t employ many staff any more.

I've been getting my son a tin full of just the purple ones for a few years now. The first year, I was told that I needed to sign up for a JL loyalty card to be able to do this. I've never been asked to show it since.

I think if you take your own QS tin, it's a bit cheaper.

CouchSweetPotatoes · 18/11/2024 07:15

I, too, was a bit confused by this one! If it’s an advert, call it an advert not a reward…
