what are you getting your 4 yr old? DD has an older sibling which means we already have a ton of the usual stuff. She just got a Barbie and some playmobile for her birthday but after the initial ‘wow’ they haven’t been touched much since so I’m not sure I want to add to the collection.

Im looking for any ideas for toys that have stood the test of time. Even if not the favourite on the day what has been played with long after!

Playdoh kitchen creations have always been popular in my house.
At that age, my eldest absolutely loved the Melissa and Doug ice cream shop, sandwich shop and pizza set.
The cardboard playhouses from Hobbycraft are excellent value and my dc have spent many happy hours playing with them.
Some of the Orchard Toys games are great and dc also loved the Gruffalo Deep Dark Wood game.

We're big into the craft scene here, any kind of painting/drawing/colouring/making set. Aquagels were very popular, better than aquabeads (although she likes those too). A clay pottery set has been played with loads.

Other than that's it's pizza shop/ice cream shop...anything that can be used with the kitchen/shop setup. Barbies. Magnatiles. Duplo/Lego.

I would definitely recommend magnatiles too. I think as a toy they can be played with in so many ways and by all ages

Thanks for these! We have magnatiles which are well loved, I might get her the magnetic people that go with it. Those aqua gels look great, I’m a bigger fan of craft stuff they can do themselves!
