Gift ideas from America

I'm going to New York soon and my youngest wants an American girl doll. Any ideas of something I could get for my tween daughters? It would be nice to get something not available in the UK to make it a bit more special, but a lot of candy/snacks/make up brands etc can be purchased over here now.
Any ideas?

My DCs like the vast variety of different wired and wonderful Lip Smacker products you can get. They’d make great stocking fillers.

MonteStory · 14/11/2024 13:00

A lot of the candy will be a different version over here so still may be worth getting the genuine American versions if they have favourites.

When I travel to the US I always buy magazines for family and friends at home, American magazines that are more available there. A magazine about American tractors for my father who loves tractors, for example.
Perhaps you can find some nice, fun and appropriate tween magazines for your daughters? In line with their interests.
Or some fun wall calendars.

stanley cups in colours you can’t get here
body care products in scents you can’t get here (dove do incredible smelling christmassy shower gel/moisturiser)
Eos lip care sets or moisturiser

You can get lots of fun flavours of M&Ms and Hershey Kisses that you can’t get here. For example Christmas sugar cookie https://www.walmart.com/ip/Hershey-s-Kisses-Sugar-Cookie-Flavored-White-Creme-Christmas-Candy-Bag-9-oz/859079289?classType=REGULAR

M&m’s! They have loads of flavours over there that you can get here.

Second the vote for Stanley cup too!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 14/11/2024 18:08

I think Stanley's are over now. Go and raid Sephora or Bath and body works. There's not much you can get there that you can't here anymore and prices mostly on par.

Dts got American girl dolls, DH almost passed out when he relalised how much it was going to cost us!

Thank you! Lip smackers is a good idea and magazine. I'll have a look for candy/m&ms we don't have over here. I was thinking bath&body works. I'll see if there's any scents etc we don't get in the uk

My dd (12) likes to buy native deodorant and that hand sanitizer that comes in a spray - can't remember what it's called?

Bath and Body works is a lot cheaper in the US than here. She also likes tree hut body scrubs but boots are starting to stock them now.

Starabella · 17/11/2024 07:41

I love the little candy cane shaped tubes you get there filled with reeses pieces or hersheys kisses. Great for stocking fillers and won't take up too much space in your suitcase!

Sees candy is nice and unavailable in the UK

The Eos lotions are really popular with teens at the moment! The most popular one is Vanilla Cashmere (you can get this in the UK but it’s twice the price) but I think the holiday limited edition ones are only available in the US https://evolutionofsmooth.com/pages/body-lotion

Hershey chocolate is disgusting - in my opinion. Don't get American chocolate!
