I've seen this done a few times now, you bring a gift for just anyone and draw numbers to choose your gift. What in the Bayliss and Harding is this? Surely it's a way to avoid one person being unhappy with their gift by making it so everyone is?!

Maybe see if it can be random but everyone buys the same type of thing - for example a book.
Everyone donates a book. Everyone gets a book.
(and easy to swap/pass on if it's not a book you like)
