Reasonably decent colouring pens for an adult?

Can anyone recommend some nice colouring pens that aren't expensive professional quality or cheap rubbish?

It's as an extra for DSs girlfriend that I'm not absolutely sure she'll use and to go with a nice adult colouring book. She is crafty but not artistic and I think she'll enjoy it but I don't know for certain.

Have you got a Hobbycraft or Rymans nearby? They do a variety of varying costs.

Check out the small business Calm over chaos run by Millie. She is on Instagram and all of her products are excellent

Police pens are fabulous

Posca pens..

B and M have some good ones.

Thanks for the ideas. We do have a B&M but no Hobbycraft or Rymans. We don't really have much of a selection of shops at all despite being technically a city. I tend to do most of my shopping on-line so will have a look at the on-line type ideas and but I might manage to get over to B&M this week. I've only ever bought cat litter and storage boxes there!

DecoTime Aquamarkers, cheap in Wilko or The Range, very decent quality. You can also add water for a watercolour effect. They have a fine tip and a "brush".
I use them for sketching. Bought them last summer for the first time, and was very impressed.
Also love Molotow Aqua Color brushes, but they are more expensive.

Thank you, we don't have The Range or Wilko either but they are probably available on-line.

We don't have either in town. Got my set while on holiday in Cornwall. I had a quick look online, there are four sets to choose from.
Pack of 12 Decotime Fineliner Aquamarkers
The one I got is not there, I wanted one for skin tones etc, and really like it, but I wish I got another set too.
POSCA are super expensive for what they are, and the nibs are not fine, so if you want an intricate colouring pen, that might not be the right choice.

They will all be on Amazon, I have got lots from them.

BigBoysDontCry · 10/11/2024 21:40

Thank you. The book is mainly Mandela type cats so skin tones not really needed, just a nice set of mixed colours will do. I'll check out Amazon. It's just when you search that so many come up and I don't always trust Amazon reviews to be honest. I've been caught out sometimes as I think at that level of price range quality can be a hit or miss so it's great to have some specific brand recommendations.

This was a very quick sketch while on holidays, but you can see the effect, using both sides of the pens, with very fine lines and thicker "brush" strokes.

I bought a set from Amazon. Search for Ohuhu - they came in a zip pouch thingy and the pens are dual ended. Great colour range.
