Does anyone know where to buy mains operated lights that look like old fashioned fairy lights?

I can only find battery operated in the shape and muted colours that I like.

This is the closest I've found:

I love the old-fashioned lights too. My parents passed ours on to me when they downsized, but I don't dare plug them in!

The thing is, even if you manage to get old-fashioned style lights, it's the bulbs themselves that are a total let-down as they're too bright these days and don't have that lovely, dark, warm glow from the good ol' days Sad

Look for "30 Multicolour LED With timer String lights Green cable" + B&Q.

I"d put a link but it shows my postcode!

Thanks, everyone.

I've ordered the B and Q set so I'll let you know if they meet my exacting specifications!

Was it these ones you got!?

I like them, though would rather they didn’t have the pink!

John Lewis have some that sound right.

I bought these last year for my 'vintage tree'. They look exactly like the ones from my childhood, but seriously, they're brighter than the sun!!!!

I really don't like the LED Christmas lights.

tigger1001 · 14/11/2024 20:42

Op I've been searching for these lights for years.

Did get some from Argos a few years ago but they only have a small number of lights on the string.

I will be watching this thread with interest!

Which lights?

LED fairy lights. They’re all too bright.

I have been going mad these last few days trying to find some way to tone down my LED fairy lights. Fairies would never be that bright! The nostalgic glow is gone forever. Just spent 2 hours painting the LeD warm white with an acrylic see through glass paint - orange - as I saw a thread that this can take the edge off. It makes them more bearable but still not got that warm fuzzy glow.
yes I do have 1500 lights but seriously it’s not the amount of lights it’s the garish brightness of LEDs 🫣

How is everyone finding their B+Q vintage lights?

We have just put ours up and a pp is right; they are indeed brighter than the sun!
