Kindle ereaders - any deals before Christmas? And which one?

Hi,

Thinking of getting 9 year old a Kindle ereader for Christmas. Looking at all versions at the moment, including the kids one. Any recommendations for which is good for a 9 year old? I have a bog standard old Paperwhite one, which I love. But unsure if the kids one would be better for him.

Also, any deals on Kindles pre-Christmas? Do they discount on Black Friday does anyone remember?

Bought my DC a Kobo recently because it allows you to borrow books from library via Libby or Borrowbox and read on it so not restricted to Amazon. This was after reading multiple reviews of Amazon Kids having a limited selection of books - apparently use tactics where they have the first 1 or 2 books of series included via Amazon Kids and then force you to pay extra to read the rest. (I don't have first hand experience because we never bought the Kindle). DC is 8 and an avid reader so could easily end up costing me a fortune in e-books

Sorry I didn't answer your question on deals. To the best of my knowledge, there should be deals for Black Friday, there certainly have been in the past few years for Kindles.

Not sure about Kobo for Black Friday
