Battery operated lava lamp?

My DD would love a lava lamp (or plasma ball) but our house has very few sockets - there’s only one in her room and it’s behind a cupboard so we can’t use it!

Has anyone seen a battery operated one, even if it’s smaller than the standard ones? I’ve searched online but haven’t come up with anything.

Have you tried smiggle they have lamps that take batteries. I hope the image uploads. I can't do links sorry. Smyths have a smaller one that's glittery.

I saw the symths glitter one the other day turned on, it's cute. It's battery operated. Maybe not as big as you'd like but can imagine they're quite hard to power just off batteries if large

I hadn’t seen those so thank you! I’m sure she’d love one of those.

I can picture the glitter one in action - I wish there was a video of the Smiggle one so I could compare!

I don’t mind if they’re a bit smaller.

Can’t you get a multi-plug extension for her room? Our living room has a socket where it’s not useable/useful but we have an extension lead with three sockets on it that we use.

These lamps have taken me back to my youth, I think I want one now 😂😂

Unfortunately not, the socket is in the least useful place possible and we’d have wire going across the room to get to either of the locations where the lamp could go. It’s a struggle throughout the house, apparently there are now regulations that houses should have a certain number of sockets, we have nowhere near with one single socket per bedroom (in awkward places)!

And only one in the hall - our old doorbell died recently and we could only find one of the wireless ones that needs to be plugged in - which means we have to unplug it every time we want to use it for something else (tiny hall and an extension lead wouldn’t work).

I have a battery operated lava lamp from menkind but the batteries really don't last very long. I spend a fortune constantly replacing them.

If you can find a lamp that comes with with a USB charger/cable you could buy a power bank and plug into into that instead of a wall socket.

OliviaRodrighost · 06/11/2024 14:24

@tealbead That sounds so annoying!

Dancinghedgehog · 06/11/2024 14:32

Boots sell a lava lamp with a usb cable so the idea of using a power bank would work. It would also save you a fortune in batteries.

edit- sorry it’s a twister lamp rather than a lava lamp but looks fun

Mathmos do tea light powered lava lamps. We have 2 and they are gorgeous.

Thanks. They look lovely but DD is 11 so I wouldn’t want one powered by candles just yet.
