Thread 9 - the one with a kink for L’Occitaine

Reastie · 04/11/2024 18:52

Thanks @Travelcrazy for the title. It really tickled me!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

@NoWordForFluffy That's great then, my sons asked for the fx stitch but it's £80, this deal makes it a much better price.

I've opted in but currently it's not auto transferring to disney, so I'm worried about it not tracking

@Daisychain789 some items on asos say they are excluded from discount codes - have you checked it’s not the item itself if you have a code that’s not working?

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 05/11/2024 15:05

@kkr168 The TOYTUESDAY code doesn't work on the FX stitch 😕

It doesn’t say it’s excluded, it’s just a jumper so not a specific brand of shoe or something but who knows!

Prai have 31% off with code HAPPYBIRTHDAYCATHY (automatically applied at checkout). I found these lovely jewel decorated jars of the throat and decolletage cream already reduced to £40 and the 31% off makes it £27.60. There are several different types of jar.

Has anyone got insider information of the Nectar boost/double up is happening this year?

I went away for the weekend and missed most of a thread, purchased many non bargain thread friendly gifts at a farmers market and came home to find Evri had left a package with my neighbour but they didn’t say which number so found it on my third knock 🫣.

Oh no, I thought it was on everything. I couldn't get onto disney via quidco anyway.

Came across this offer of 6 sample size perfumes from Ghost in a goodie bag on Amazon. Each sample comes in it's own little drawstring bag so it would be easy to split and costs £18.78.

Someone asked about Locitanne deals. There will be the QVC Christmas bundle soon. I just don’t know when or what. Worth looking out for as they are usually good value for money.

@onedayatatime73 Lidl and Aldi have flavoured gin at good prices. I don't like flavored gin so can't comment personally, but lots of my friends rate them highly!

I second this - much nicer that the Whitley Neil ones (at least, IMO for the rhubarb and ginger flavour)

ZIGGY911 · 05/11/2024 16:08

@FreeFromChoc thank you, that looks like a good price

Arewesureitisntbedtime · 05/11/2024 16:11

I seem to remember there were a few other Sonic fans on the thread who might be interested in this advent calendar My son had it 2 years ago but we had to get it shipped from America because it wasn't available over here and I was really impressed with the quality of the contents and he loved it.

I think people probably know this already but if you’re buying Christmas cards, wrapping paper, candles etc from M&S, it’s worth checking to see if you have a local M&S outlet as they always have the exact same current stock available at cheaper prices.
that’s where I go every year now for my frankincense & myrrh candle fix. Prices can be 25% cheaper.

Wholetthedogsoutwhowhowho · 05/11/2024 17:32

I seem to remember some talk on here about M&S ones, i've seen in Asda today that they are selling light up led candles for £7.

Raindancer411 · 05/11/2024 17:37

@redjoker Thanks and here is hoping lol

onedayatatime73 · 05/11/2024 18:13

If you google wine52/entertainment it takes you to a great offer. 3 x bottles of wine free for paying postage (think it was £8). Decent wine. And you can choose red/ white/ or mixed. Also comes with some sort of snack. And you can cancel subscription completely straight after. It was advertised on Richard Osman podcast.

Isittimeformetosleep · 05/11/2024 18:13

MsSheldonCooper · 05/11/2024 12:39

If anyone else is looking for alcohol gifts, note that you’ll get £40 off a £80 spend at Laithwaites with a referrals code (see promo codes and referrals board - you’ll find plenty of referral links there).

right now there’s a few wine cases for £95 which comes down to £55 with the code, which is less than £5 per bottle and probably a much better wine than you’d get in the supermarket for £7-8. NB These are subscription cases but the wine typically gets delivered within 48 hours and you can immediately cancel the subscription.

likewise there are some hampers for £85ish - and probably not worth the £85 tbh - but probably better than a £40-ish normal hamper with the referral code.

Do you know if this offer works on beer too? Hubby would love the Hawkstone ones!

There's a business called Relax Kids, I know my friend gets her affirmation cards from there.

Should work. I think it’s only champagne which is excluded. Give it a try anyway 👍🏻

Gift set on Notino at a good price - £62.65 with the code APP

Blessedbethefruitz · 05/11/2024 18:31

Probably a stupid question but - is there a specific type of doll head to do makeup to? Or can they all just be wiped clean? They all seem to be hair ones when I Google. Dd (almost 3) is suddenly (post-halloween) obsessed with doing makeup and I'm not sure how many times a night I can be turned into a zombie before I crack...
