Annual for an 11 year old girl

Hi,

Has anyone seen an annual suitable for an 11/12 year old girl? It’s tradition to get one for my DC. I have no problem for my DS who loves the Beano and Lego but I’m struggling to find one for my DD.

She isn’t into gaming - lots seem to be aimed at this. She enjoyed the Jacqueline Wilson one until they stopped making them and I can’t seem to find an equivalent type of thing - has anyone seen anything? She enjoys the girly magazines on offer but I can’t find an equivalent annual.

Thanks

Guinness World Record book?

Thanks for the suggestion, we’ve had one in the past and she hasn’t shown much interest in it (unlike my DS).

I should also add that she isn’t into football or Taylor Swift! If there was a general popstar annual she might like that but she isn’t a big fan of a specific person.

I’ve even found a couple for my elderly grandmother so I feel like there’s a gap in the market here!

The only ones I have seen are Taylor Swift and Strictly Come Dancing both on Amazon. The rest are all aimed at younger children (Disney Princess, Barbie - though 11 year old me would have loved Barbie!)
If you look on eBay there are vintage annuals - Jackie for example!
It's a shame I used to love getting annuals!

Thanks. She is unusual in that she isn’t a massive fan of Taylor Swift - she doesn’t not like her, but she wouldn’t want a whole book about her! Same for strictly.

She’s quite a young 11 and still likes Disney princesses (we went to WDW earlier this year and she loved meeting them!) and dolls but the annuals on offer are too young in content. She loves Rainbow High dolls and squishmallows but unfortunately they don’t seem to have an annual.

The ones like Jackie would be perfect!

Do the phoenix do one?

I had a quick look on Vinted and there's loads of 80's ones. Bringing back happy memories. Maybe she would like some of those. Plenty Bunty and Tammy.

There's a girl called joanie18 who has loads for sale.

There’s a national geographic one, my DD might see the funny side of a ‘younger’ one if it was part of a tradition. Bluey or Princess for nostalgia.

greycircle · 03/11/2024 09:00

Thanks, DD might actually still enjoy the Disney Princess one even if she’s too old for it!

I had a look on vinted and someone was selling a bundle of a few unused JW annuals that she hasn’t had along with a girly looking annual for very cheap, so I’ve ordered that.

There are a lot of Buntys etc but I’m not sure how old they would look irl.

Annual makers please take note that we need more variety in annuals to cater for non gamers/ football fans!

I stopped buying DS8 an annual a couple of years ago as I could find nothing suitable for his age. This year I've got him David Walliams Annual which has a recommended age of 5-9 years. I don't think I've ever seen an annual for an older child.

Maybe a small book box set instead or a bumper puzzle book?

OldTinHat · 03/11/2024 10:15

What about the Ripleys book? My DC loved those and my 18yr old nephew still loves getting one from his GM every year.

KnickerlessFlannel · 03/11/2024 10:23

I struggled a couple of years ago (this year dd is a swiftie which helped!) But in the past couple of years I got her a book aimed at her age e.g things 9 years old should know.

What about an almanac? Nosy Crow used to do one but this year it is Collins.

Good job! I used to buy my DC old Beano annuals from the 80s, they absolutely loved them.

This looks great, thanks - I might get this too!

Thanks for all the suggestions.

@maltravers my DS absolutely loves beano, I might have a look and get him an older one too now that DD will have more than one! We found some old beanos in a charity shop and he loved them - he said they were even better than the ones on sale now!

The old ones are great. There are plenty on EBay and no doubt other resale sites. Good luck!
