For DH it’s a really strong cheddar. Far stronger than supermarkets seem to sell.
We each get a box of Hotel Chocolat which we start on Christmas Eve and mine last a few weeks. I will get an alcohol free Rum. Used to have real rum at Christmas but developed a sudden allergy. I may think of others but those are the ones that immediately come to mind.

Christmas things: Mince pies, panettone, stollen, Christmas pudding with brandy butter, Christmas cake.

Things that are available at other times but feel Christmassy: salted nuts, pickled onions, pate, shortbread, satsumas, cocktail sausages.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 26/10/2024 22:05

Pate. I love it don't know why I only buy at Christmas.

Rest stinky cheese because it can stay outside in the eski and not stink the house out.

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 26/10/2024 23:35

Pistachio nuts… for our evening of games…
also the 4 classic tubs of chocs just because it’s tradition, we still have them at Easter usually where we turn any leftover chocolates into rice crispie cakes.
vol au vents on Boxing Day, just gotta be done.

used to be Worcestershire twiglets before they got discontinued.. they were elite and very very moreish 🤓

Chocolates. Used to be Quality Street or Roses but they're too sickly now so am on the hunt for an alternative.
Lebkuchen.

Plum or sloe gin for Christmas Night when the hard work's done.

Panettone (aldi do a lovely fruit one)

Pistolpunk · 27/10/2024 01:07

Definitely xmas cake as its tradition that I sit on xmas eve night to have a bit of that with a cuppa. Strawberry and chocolate pop tarts for xmas breakfast along with fruits etc. The pop tarts tradition started when the adult children were young and are still a must. Other picky bits like the cheese, onion and pineapple sticks for xmas eve buffet and other picky buffet bits.

missb10 · 27/10/2024 01:27

What I want for Christmas dinner this year is free range turkey, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, roast carrots, sprouts and broccoli/cauliflower and Yorkshire pudding, followed by Christmas pudding with rum sauce and brandy butter. For tea we will have turkey sandwiches, mince pies and Christmas cake with brandy butter and blue cheese. In the evening we will sit by the fire and eat chocolates and nuts and drink port. At least in my ideal world.

EmiliaRuusuvuori · 27/10/2024 01:33

M and S Cherry liqueurs
Banoffee pie, we only eat it at Christmas
A nice selection of crackers
Assorted cheese

Openmouthinsertfood · 27/10/2024 01:35

I'm not a huge cheese lover but I will this year treat myself to some Boursin Garlic and Herb Soft Cheese on crackers. Other must haves include a tub of Roses and Quality Street.

SantaPellegrina · 27/10/2024 01:40

Toasted stollen cake for breakfast.
Twiglets.
Coke.
Gougères.
A 'historic' fish pie.
Champagne.
Home-made truffles (it's just butter and cocoa, chilled).
Home made chocolate rolly-polly iced to look like a log.

SantaPellegrina · 27/10/2024 01:46

@missb10 you've just described my worst Christmas food nightmare 😂but we've got to have what we've got to have! Enjoy!

YuliaJollyberry · 27/10/2024 01:55

Big tin of chocolates
Advocaat for snowballs
Turkish delight
Mince pies, Christmas cake, plum pudding and iced rum sauce
Chocolate Santa, chocolate coins, chocolate orange and a sugar mouse

kikisparks · 27/10/2024 08:12

Various crackers including Cornish wafers which I only seem to get at Christmas. One year we couldn’t find them anywhere, I was gutted!

Cans of san pellegrino and appletiser which otherwise seem too expensive.

I’m vegan and get expensive nut based cheeses which are so much better than anything in the supermarket but so pricey.

Jus rol pain au chocolats every Christmas morning. They aren’t that dear or anything but usually only get them at Christmas as that’s my tradition.

Lebkuchen, a lot of it is vegan and really nice.

Duncans of deeside shortbread at new year.

Home made trifle.

RabbitsRock · 27/10/2024 10:42

kikisparks I love Cornish wafers but they’re definitely smaller than they used to be.

BiddyPop · 27/10/2024 11:11

A large bag of Leonidas orangettes (for the 3 of us).
Good mix of cheese (trio).
Amaretti biscuits and amaretti liqueur (just me).

AllTheAll · 27/10/2024 13:17

@Pistolpunk
That pop tart tradition is adorable.

@Samandytimlucypeterolivia
Worcestershire twiglets would easily fit into my menu (and my belly). What a shame.
