Hi all,

I am trying to find my son some new toys for Christmas, he’s into blocks/magnatiles so we have bought him some more of each and some Lego, he’s also into Playmobil and had lots for birthday 2 weeks ago so we don’t need anymore.

what do your 5 yr old boys love to play with ? I know it’s a hit/miss thing but I need some ideas.

he had bikes scooters ride ons :)

That's about the age my stepson started getting into board games.

My 4 ( nearlyb5yo) still plays with his paw patrol toys alot.

DS's absolute favourite is his vtech marble run. It's huge and fairly pricey but worth every penny for the amount he has used it.

Games here. Buckaroo, snakes and ladders, guess who and hungry hippos are the current favourites.

fuzzy felts
electric train set
3d jigsaw

Gravitrax

Hot Wheels and Kinetic sand construction box

Ds loves all Lego, especially Lego City and is keen on the Lego train for younger ones for Christmas. Hot Wheels cars & monster trucks with simple track & jumps ( not the big sets) Playmobil fire, police & farm are well loved too. Dinosaurs with trucks, dinosaur figures that he can bath, uses with playmobil like Godzilla that sort of thing.

He loves UNO, Dobble Gruffalo, Connect 4, Junior Monopoly & Snakes & Ladders & Pop up Pirate games. He loves skateboarding, riding his bike, scooter and swingball set.

MemphisBluesAgain · 27/10/2024 22:33

@Pandasnacks Gravitrax is great but I think most 5 year olds would struggle with it - I'd say 7+ is the age range for that.

AgainandagainandagainSS · 27/10/2024 22:36

Bike/scooter if he doesn't already have one
Swingball (unless you live in a flat)
Books
Train set
Toy cars
Trainers with lights
Board games

My niece is 5 and has one, she loves it but my sister is a bit concerned with the level of posing and pouting that has started. In her case someone else gifted it to her child.

@Caffeineneedednow - thanks for replying - that definitely makes me think twice about that idea.

Blessedbethefruitz · 30/10/2024 18:24

Ds is 6 in January, and he's a little stem person. Loves building (knex, marble runs, brio track, magnatiles - oddly doesnt care for lego), games and science.

He's getting mario maker 2 (on the switch - the only thing he's requested), a kids smart watch with games and a camera on, a giant squishmallow, some early reader books, a minecraft diamond armour onesie, rc monster truck, an old phone with plants vs zombies and pre loaded yoto, and some little bits like kinetic sand etc.

We looked into it but the paper was so expensive - instead we ended up buying a simple (but robust!) digital camera- which I think has worked out better because then he can take as many shots as he likes and then chose the couple that came out well to print and stick in his scrapbook… it’s definitely helped get him a bit more interested in going on nature walks etc. because he’s always got a little mission of finding something interesting to take a picture of

Mine is 6 - he loves drawing and we got him a light box for his birthday so that he can trace.
He's also mad on Marvel so he has a lot of Marvel figures.
Magic tricks, prank sets
Goo Jitzu and those type of stretchy toys
Fidget toys
This year we are getting him a 3D pen and some Godzilla X Kong toys.
