We are getting a potion kit and some more books as she loves reading, but not sure what else to get. Was thinking perhaps one of those Leapfrog Globes. The only thing on her Christmas list is a "real" puppy which isn't going to be possible!

Will be getting DD some more Hamma beads in more colours as those are a favourite currently.

Books wise- your DD might like the Cat Kid Comic Club books and Horrid Henry, those are my Dd faves.

She also wants a football strip to wear to training.

DD6 would like one of the hatchimals big eggs... I think it's like a furby, it's about £60 so it's not likely!

We will definitely get her a board game of some kind, as she loves playing games.

She's just had her birthday and we got her a claw machine (after mumsnetters talked me into it!) which has been surprisingly good, it was about £25 from eBay and we put a mix of sweets in.

Purple Ladybug water bottle decoration kit
Cluedo Junior
Light up tracing box
Galaxy room projector

MindatWork · 23/10/2024 14:49

@CaptainCarrotsBigSword ooh could you link the claw machine you got, please? DD is turning 6 in a couple of weeks and has asked for one but the one on the Smyths website has really poor reviews.

Other birthday and Christmas ideas include:

  • Mousetrap / Kerplunk / Kids' scrabble and similar
  • Disney lego set
  • Marble Rush expansion pack
  • A couple of LOL Suprise (I always thought these were trash but she plays with them a lot)
  • Some simple chapter books
  • A micro scooter maxi (to replace her old outgrown mini)
  • A tie dye kit
  • A few little bits like bath bombs, hair accessories etc.
  • A giant Stitch cuddly toy (this is a grandparent gift 😑)

It's really tough with Christmas being so close to her birthday, we sometimes save some bits until the Spring so it gets spread out a bit.

So far I've bought my 6yo DD...
A chocolate coin maker
Space-themed gemstone dig kit (she's mad on space!)

She's also asked for (but I've learnt from experience not to buy until much closer to Christmas because she has a tendency to change her mind!!) musical instruments- namely a proper xylophone and a kalimba.

Other ideas (because I know family will ask!)
Disney bitzee
Vtech secret diary
Magic set
Bookeez
Animal stationery design set
WWF Wild Scenes kit
Aquarellum - space one
Animal adoption
Squishmallow
Books

Bumping for more inspiration!

Please 🙏🏻 buy your girls gifts which encourage STEM skills. Boys grow up with an advantage in these skills because of the toys marketed at them. Chemistry sets and Lego kits (good ones not the patronising pink ones). Good train sets that have to be worked on and anything mechanical that you need to figure out.

Thank you for this. That's interesting and sad. Both my girls love science so never any shortage of science-related sets but I will explore some other STEM sets too.

My 6 year old is getting:

Gabbys dollhouse and rooms
Rollerskates
Airbrush plush
Stitch fx puppet
Disney fashion doll stitch
Airdry clay
Disney colourbrain game
Rock painting set
Solar system jigsaw puzzle

Contemplating some posca pens as she uses these at her art club but thinking maybe she is a bit too young still.

Sassy306 · 12/11/2024 10:37

Whenever she likes something I make a note of it on the lead up to Christmas. So far my nearly 7 year old has asked for....

Modelling Clay
Little Live Pet Monkey
Thermal Printing Camera
Smart watch with tracking and call ability
A Furbie
A set of those fancy felt pens for colouring that come in a case
Coco Wyo colouring books.
Diamond art
Electric kids scooter
Roller blades
Anything with stitch on it
Crystal growing and science sets
Magic Mixie Cauldron
Bluey plane

She will not be getting all of these things.
I usually wait until nearer Black Friday then I ask her what she really wants from the list and we narrow it down.

She also knows that Santa only brings 1 or 2 smaller gifts.
We normally time the grotto visit for earlier in December......I made the mistake of going on Christmas eve once.....and she asked him for completely different things😬😂

@Pinkkisugarmouse great advice ! 👏🏼 any suggestions for a good train set ? I'm looking for one for dd who is also 7. Would love one that goes round the Christmas tree.

Painauraison · 12/11/2024 10:43

Have a look at smart games, magnetiles and gravitrax. Those things are cool!

My daughter is nearly 22 so I don’t know what good sets are available now. I’ll have a look and see what’s available but it depends on your budget too.
