We have 3 dc ds5 ds8 and dd 12. Every xmas eve the kids have woken up to a xmas eve box ( book pjs and chocolate) and I have made a cooked breakfast/ went to a local premier in for a unlimited breakfast. At lunch we go to a soft play. We have dont this since dd was born so 12 yrs but she is too old now and the soft play closed down this year.
Any ideas what can replace softplay? both my boys have sen.

cinema for a Christmas film?

Sorry, didn't see you'd already said that!!

ColdinNovember · 20/10/2024 19:35

Trampolining or climbing wall type place ?

Cosycore · 20/10/2024 19:35

I agree with cinema, but if you’re wanting to tire them out and be out of the house

swimming
a walk
the museum
the pantomime

in the house
Christmas films
baking
hot chocolate

doodleschnoodle · 20/10/2024 19:35

We do a winter lights trail on Christmas Eve. Feels very festive, and we get hot chocolate etc way round.

smallchange · 20/10/2024 19:35

Gravity or Ryze?

MiddleAgedDread · 20/10/2024 19:36

Do they still do clip and climb at the place out at Ratho?

TheCatCameBack112 · 20/10/2024 19:37

Cinema, or pantomime, or ice skating, or skip the breakfast out and go out for lunch instead, and home for a Christmas film

FloatyBoaty · 20/10/2024 19:37

What about Edinburgh Zoo?
or wrapping up and heading over to Portobello Beach?

WingingIt101 · 20/10/2024 19:38

Our Christmas Eve is a walk (have a dog so non negotiable for him!) with a stop at a pub for a drink and packet of crisps, followed by home for hot chocolate station and selection of Christmas programmes like the snowman and then the Julia Donaldson adaptations (for younger dc)

Pp suggestion of trampolining to tire them out is brilliant!

doodleschnoodle · 20/10/2024 19:38

Or Camera Obscura? I think it does Xmas stuff. I love that place.

menopausalmare · 20/10/2024 19:39

We walk across the common to an old pub for a pint and then home to make gingerbread houses.

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 20/10/2024 19:39

The zoo!

EveryDayisFriday · 20/10/2024 19:44

We go for a big Xmas Eve walk in the afternoon around the park. After dark we walk around the streets to look at and rate our favourite decorations on all the houses. Before we go out, I put out the Xmas eve bags so they come home to a "delivery". Then it's hot chocolate and Xmas movie.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 20/10/2024 19:50

It's hard to answer without knowing exactly what your boys needs are. Some kids thrive in busy environments, others don't, some are runners, some need strict routines and schedules adherence. SEN is a broad spectrum, and you're looking for really narrow results.

Can you tell us more about what to avoid in our suggestions so we can help you better?

Cupofteaandbiscuits · 20/10/2024 20:22

We go bowling and see a film at the cinema on Xmas eve x

PennyApril54 · 20/10/2024 20:24

Cinema for us every Christmas Eve. Gets s bit expensive but hard to stop because now it's considered tradition 🙈 if I could id change it to something like Christmas themed snacks, big Christmas jigsaw, movie at home.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 20/10/2024 20:29

We do a walk on the beach and then the aquarium they play lovely choral music and it's usually quiet, then out for lunch.
This year we've got panto booked, then lunch and will do walk and aquarium in the afternoon. Best to keep them busy!

sleepandcoffee · 21/10/2024 03:56

We've visited our local zoo before which was lovely and quiet on Christmas Eve , abit of an expensive day out though !
I would imagine the museums in Edinburgh would be pretty quiet too .
