Wallet for 4yo boy

Hes asked for a wallet to keep his pocket money in. I don’t know if it’s just me but I can’t find a decent kids wallet anywhere 🫣 Loads of cheap looking options on Amazon which I think look a bit rubbish. Smiggle has a few but not really anything that I think he’d like. He doesn’t really have a favourite character or anything so I’d like to avoid characters.

Hoping for a nice Velcro tri-fold style. I feel like they were everywhere when I was younger and now I can’t find any 😅🤣

Any suggestions of places to try? Have tried John Lewis, Smiggle, Argos, supermarkets etc

Try Hype for colourful designs or Etsy for something personalised with initials.

Or if you have an attraction near you like a zoo, wildlife park or national trust the gift shops often have good options.

We looked everywhere last year with my son. Found one in an outdoorsy shop eventually (Mountain Warehouse or Regatta or similar). I was surprised how difficult it was to find one.

TheSnugHare · 20/10/2024 00:11

He doesn’t need one just keep it in your own purse

Needanewname42 · 20/10/2024 00:15

Smiggle is where I got my boys, but little choice. Definitely a gap in the market for wallets for little boys.

Sports shops is another option Nike, Adidas etc but more teen orientated than little boys

But he's asked for one?

Honestly I think with children you think about all purchases you do at minimalising environmental costs. I did this with all my kids. All of their presents where poss were second hand. Vinted have loads of cheap but quality options. That's where I would look. At four he is even going to grow out of it or lose it so don't spend a huge amount!

Do you get everything your kid asks for?

No, clearly not. However, the OP has gone to the trouble of posting here presumably because she has decided she would like to get him one.

Why wouldn't you want to get a kid a wallet?

Honestly this place is weird.

Sure get him one but get him a decent second hand one. He's 4. He will be happy with this.

I’ve got mine this one from Amazon, they love it: Tinc Unisex Kid's Bi-fold Wallet with Zipper

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/10/2024 00:47

My DS has one with card slots , place for notes , clear ID card slot and zipped coin section. IIRC theres a carabina type clip so it can fasten in a bag etc,

I'll see if theres a name on it , he;s had it years and still going , (Canvas type)

justasking111 · 20/10/2024 01:07

If he's four perhaps a bluey, Spiderman etc wallet. That's what I buy my grandchildren. This year the girls are getting Swiftie purses.https://www.amazon.co.uk/Verona-Originals-Essentials-Childrens-Wallets/dp/B0BNDVMRSW/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=1CGJMF5M8ASQJ&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.PdRR0qenVImQHhVJ6fAz2izO-LZp8JmUQEqL6yD6Y4ime8GN8ngHXJ-OgFIHfD7pDLNGzNFkL7Cu5I05CYOw6slhX49rjg-5WlHhqiRkJIJ9kwkSIgFU8E0uHPbUr8rp_WJo7cAD-DxHu0hIREO2FLLvQpA2H0KdvGP6abxTMCulAJ4peoh3DR8bwxXEmCQMcg5hlzRwVR3ttLmQekjtJDONN-NCcIiHlFzyl32qn0OUXC5D3A62iPlc14aTMU71kIpZn3PgAE_uCQMXJsz0UCG1Esu695Nmxtkoy6eWheA.DfvSpQTvP538_kAjtRYksW5vdXvXvXm5saSVV8tfiio&dib_tag=se&keywords=bluey+wallet&nsdOptOutParam=true&qid=1729382565&sprefix=bluey+wall%2Caps%2C169&sr=8-2

Surely the point of a young child having money is to teach them the value of money.
Let them count it decide what they can buy, let them count it decide what they can save for.
Go to the counter / checkout with their money and purchase their things.

Would you really want them going through your purse for their money?

I wouldn't buy a character wallet as characters will quickly be out grown but no reason for a child not to have their own purse or wallet

Pumpkinseason3 · 20/10/2024 06:25

Thank you all for your replies 😊 I didn’t realise kids wallets would be such a controversial topic 🤯😅

@TheSnugHare He doesn’t “need” anything he’s asked for for his birthday or Christmas technically but personally I think a wallet is a great idea 🤷🏻‍♀️ He loves getting involved in paying for things at the till and he loves to keep his own library card for getting his books each week, why not have somewhere to keep it all? 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Moonshiners I buy loads of secondhand toys/clothes etc so have no issue with secondhand, just still can’t see much that’s not specific characters etc. And I don’t believe that he needs to have everything secondhand just because he’s a child

@Cheshireflamingo @Needanewname42 It’s definitely so much harder to find than I expected!! No idea why 😅 I thought it would have been a pretty common purchase! Hundreds of options for little coin purses but that’s not what he wants.
