iPhone for a 12 year old (refurb)

I'm hoping to buy DS 12 a phone for Christmas, I'm planning on a refurb and I have a budget of just under £200. I was looking at the Apple SE (second edition) but the lady in the shop said the iPhone 11 was a better phone. Can anyone elaborate please? I didn't want to waste her time and I only went in to have a quick look as I wasn't buying today. It has to be Apple for family sharing as both my husband and I are Apple.

If you're going to go for an SE, get the third generation one. You should be able to get a refurb on in budget. I would suggest though the 11 or 12 if you can one in budget (check out refurbish sellers on eBay)

Try CEX they have good phones.

Have a look on Music Magpie or on Giffgaff.

Ds has the 3rd generation se and has been really pleased with it

the battery doesn’t last all day if he’s on something like YouTube or Google maps loads but he has a little power bank that charges the phone in about 30 mins which was £9!

id definitely recommend one, he likes the smaller size

we got it on a pay monthly with ee for £24 a month

I still have a 2020 SE - it’s a perfect pocket size.

We've had some good refurb phones and tablets from Back Market.

My DS has a 2020 SE from Music Magpie that cost £135. It's a much better size for him than the iPhone 11 which is a lot bigger. Don't forget to buy a tempered glass screen protector and a decent case for it.

I wouldn't get the SE for a teen. It's all about capability and being cool which an 11/12 does. The SE is a basic smartphone that's affordable.

Doing similar for a birthday in Nov and we've gone for the 12 mini and after lots of looking at refurb sites and reading reviews, bought from giffgaff - has 18 month warranty which I thought was good! We went for V good condition which was just over £200 - good condition was about 40-50 cheaper.
