Christmas Elf Ideas!

Hi All,

We have Christmas elves in our house (sadly) and after nearly 10 years of elf chaos, I'm really low on original ideas.

Our DC absolutely adore the elves and it's probably the highlight of Christmas for them, but as they've got a little older, they've become more discerning, and I can tell that cute little set-ups no longer interest them. They want the elves to do things that are really mischievous/shocking. At the same time, they are too young/sheltered for any of the risqué stuff some people get their elves to do. Please can I have some ideas for funny/mischievous things our elves can do?

If it helps, we have the cuddly "Elf for Christmas" elves (one boy, one girl) that are cute, rather than the "Elf on the Shelf" ones.

We do have some things that our elves do every year, but I'm looking to fill the gaps with new stuff. Things we always do include:

Arrival breakfast
Making Xmas cake (with loads of mess)
Zoom call to FC to report on behaviour
Xmas Eve box
Disco
Treasure hunt
Crime scene/mystery to solve.

The other days we usually do something silly but this year I'm struggling for new ideas, so any suggestions massively appreciated! Thanks 🙏

I've got a funny if weird idea, depending how old your kids are. Inspired by my son giggling hysterically at something in a movie when he was about 5

Have your kids seen the film elf? You could make a small bowl of spaghetti and put the syrup in elf's hands on the table with it set for one.

Do it on a night you are having spaghetti for tea, and just keep a lityle bit back.

Elf wee (2 drops of green food dye in toilet)

At work last year we had a cuddly elf and the object was to hide him until found but in plain view iykwim - it took 4 days for a colleague to find him inspecting the Christmas tree trunk in between the baubles

If you have neighbours with windows onto yours have him appear at the window with a "help me note"

Can he /she go away for a holiday and send postcards/texts back home

Have a competition with most unusual place to be photographed

Do they watch I'm a celebrity? I put the elves in glass jars with jelly snakes last year after we'd been watching that

Or "roasting" eachother on kebab sticks in the fire/on the hob (not switched on obviously)

Or if you have a boy/girl they could have a baby? We had a baby elf one year

My DC are older too so I have been trying to think of more naughty scenarios rather than cute!
I'm hoping this is my last year of doing it as my youngest is 9!

Our elves turned the milk pink (add red food dye to your milk and put the elves in the fridge)

They covered the Christmas tree in our underwear

They put tiny brown paper moustaches on our our framed family photos

They swapped the contents of the cutlery drawer with the box of sweets and crisps

The spelt out "Oops I peed" with frozen peas

They painted DHs nails, each finger a different colour

They filled the bath with balloons

They drew on the bathroom mirror with toothpaste

They wrapped up our shoes in tinfoil

They built 2 forts out of weetabix on the kitchen side and had a fight with mini marshmallows

This is a fun idea, but one we've already done (as my DC love the film "Elf"). We've also done it with sweet laces as the spaghetti so that it was completely edible (as the spaghetti goes dries out if you leave it overnight).

Things our elves have done are:

  • Open a new box of cereal from the bottom, remove cereal, refill with sweets and reseal with double-sided tape. We've also done it swapping Rice Krispies for Rainbow Drops.
  • Putting gelatine in the milk so it doesn't pour
  • Hiding cutlery and filling cutlery drawer with sweets
  • Toilet papering the Christmas tree, the car, the kitchen
  • Putting pants on the Christmas tree, or making a garland of pants and stringing it up over the house
  • Freezing an elf in a block of ice
  • Writing toilet words on post-its and covering the kitchen *Writing "We pee'd on the the floor" with peas
  • Covering the cupboard doors with wrapping paper
  • Covering the internal doors with cling film so you walk into it
  • Cleaning teeth with Nutella
  • Covering Dad's face with make-up
  • Changing Roblox username to something toilet-related
  • Wrapping themselves in foil to become astronauts and blaring Sam Ryder's "space man" as they hang from the ceiling
  • Leaving a trail of toilet paper through the house covered in Nutella "poo"
  • Fishing in the kitchen sink with a wind up shark
  • Raiding advent calendars/chocolate boxes etc.
  • Leaving ransom notes
  • Eating miniature roast dinner (made of marzipan) with miniature crackers
  • Making a Christmas tree out of twiglets
  • Doing magic tricks (i.e. one day they leave eggs in egg cups with instructions to sprinkle in glitter etc. and the next day it's turned into a kinder egg)
  • Get "hammered' by sitting in the drinks cabinet and are replaced with a Hama bead picture of the elf and the cuddly Elf is hidden for a day
  • KitKat jenga
  • Played various board games; Scrabble with rude words, scalextrics
  • Indoor snowball fights with marshmallows and cotton wool
  • Melted snowman with milk and a hairdryer
  • Taken all the tinned food from the pantry and made towers everywhere
  • Taken all the cushions and made towers everywhere
  • Fake parking ticket on car window

These are the ones that come to mind that weren't just cute.

I have a three year old and thinking about having an elf for the first time this year so yes maybe my ideas are not that original but the spaghetti one is the only idea I have so far. This will be useful thread.

When my son watched the Cat in the Hat (The real- person character with computer animation film when he was little,

I don't think he ever laughed so hard as when the Cat in the Hat dressed up like a builder then bent like hmm what do we have here on this table, bent over and, he had a big, plastic, - clearly strapped on ! - bare butt hanging fully right out on top of his falling down trousers !

Maybe inappropriate, Ik Ik... but did he ever laugh at that. Think it was just so silly and unexpected for him

elQuintoConyo · 11/10/2024 08:44

Quarantine him under a bell jar for ten days cos he has COVID.
